Community Good Friday Service
12:00 p.m.
St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
Dear friends,

What a privilege it is to have been invited to take over for Jim Steiner as
your second interim pastor (my title is Interim II). I hope you’ll join me in
continuing to pray for Jim and Caroline as they continue in a very difficult
task as they bring healing to a hurting and divided congregation. May the
Holy Spirit guide them in this very difficult task.

And speaking of praying, I want to remind you (as I said on 2/25) that
prayer is the most important thing we can do as a congregation during the
interim period; to pray for the Pastor Nominating Committee, for a
candidate they will interview, and for the committee on ministry of the
Presbytery who are assisting us on the search. To that end, I have asked the
session to approve establishing a Covenant Day of Prayer. They set
Tuesday, the day each week that the PNC meets, to bond with them in
prayer as they do their work on the pastoral search. On March 4th we will
provide special bookmarks to put on your refrigerator or in your devotional
materials to remind you to keep your covenant to pray with and for them as
they meet. Of course, you are free to pray any day, or any time for the
committee and the persons they interview but keeping the covenant will
remind us that we all share a common task and responsibility in this
process. Remember as James 5: 16 says “The prayers of the righteous are
powerful and effective”. Paul reminds us in I Thessalonians 5: 16-19
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for
this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.”

Again, my wife Vail and I are pleased to be here, in whatever time we

will be with you, to WORSHIP, LABOR, and to PRAY “without ceasing”.

May God bless our ministry and time together.

Bill Jackson

IN
GREAT NEWS FOR KIDS AND YOUTH! Wednesdays on the Hill is back! Our Spring session extends
from February 21 through April 18 from 5:00- 7:00 PM. If you know of a child or teen who hasn’t tried
WOTH, it’s never too late to start Just come on in! Our Welcome Team will be waiting with registration
info and will be happy to point you in the direction of all the activity. We’re planning an incredible closing
on Earth Day and our Bible time will be really exciting- the Last Days of Jesus and the adventures of the
early Church. We are happy to have our leadership team back PLUS we welcome Elean and Greg Heist,
Suzzanne Freeze, and Jenny Martin to the WOTH staff.

Remember our WOTH Mission Project! Our goal is collecting enough supplies to send TEN School Kits
to be distributed to hurricane ravaged schools and students in Puerto Rico via Church World Service.
While our downstairs bulletin board is off limits due to construction, we have hijacked the sanctuary board
to keep track of contributions. Keep an eye on how we are progressing.

Our wonderful TEENS met on February 10 to make the lunch bags distributed on Feb. 11. After a brisk
and efficient assembly line to produce sandwiches, we learned what a tricky substance melted
marshmallow can be. But three huge trays of Rice Krispy Treats were produced, decorated and sampled.
Then we turned artists and worked on giving plain old lunch bags a Valentine twist. We finished up with
some pizza to regain our strength. A big thanks from Kathy who was introduced so late in life to bacon on
pizza. Where was this all my life?!?!? There’s a rumor that the bags were DEEPLY appreciated.

We also took time to discuss a summer Mission Trip and the good news is in! We are tentatively
scheduled for Mission Possible at Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock for June 24-29. Not only will
participants get to enjoy all the great camp activities in the evenings, we will travel to several work sites all
over our region for a variety of service projects. This is an amazing program that only has 12 opening
each summer and we are fortunate to land one! Talk to Kathy Davis about more info. The cost is VERY
reasonable.

ADULTS are not overlooked this spring either! The Tuesday Morning Bible Study for Women is finding
the Gospel of Mark not only informative but timely. Its overarching themes on the nature of Jesus and the
nature of our discipleship are leading to some great discussion of current problems.

Men and Women have great opportunity for study this Lenten season! Join us for any or all of these
special studies by Rev. Dr. Bill Jackson.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

Dr. McWilson Atakro sends greetings to us from Ho, Ghana.

I am happy to join the congregation to welcome the interim Pastor the Rev. William Jackson and the
wife. I hope with their presence a lot of good things will come the way of the Hill church. May the
Almighty God be with you all on the Hill. I take the opportunity to also welcome the new music director in
the person of Mrs. Jenny Taylor Martin. They are all welcome on board.
Please do extend greetings to all members singing gloriously on the Hill. My family is doing very well,

PNC Update: The PNC continues to review the resumes for pastoral candidates (so far approx. 180) in
search of the person whom God has chosen for our church. We have conducted one phone interview and
have reached out to several other candidates to confirm their potential interest in Hill and that they are
actively seeking. We hope to arrange phone interviews with other desirable candidates as they come our
way. As always, the PNC appreciates your continued support as we search for our next pastor!
