 Correct! How did you find MEAN?  Sir, we find Mean by adding all the
number of magazines borrowed per day
last week then divides by the number of
days.
 Correct! How about the middle  “ Median”
number of borrowed magazines per
day last week when ordered from
least to greatest?
 Correct! How did you find the Median?  Sir, we find the median by simply
arranging the number of borrowed
magazines per day from least to greatest
then spot the middle number.
 Excellent! And how about the number  “Mode”
of borrowed magazines per day last
week that occurs most frequently?

 Correct. How did you find the Mode?  Sir, we find the Mode by simply counting
the number of borrowed magazines per
day last week who appears most
frequent.

Situational Analysis
 Very good! Now, to check if indeed
you have understood the above ideas
on Mean, Median and Mode of
ungrouped data, let us analyze the
following situations.

Situation 1:
A group of students obtained the
following scores in a math quiz:
8, 7, 9, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3

Find the Mean, Median and Mode.  Mean is 6.7

3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10

 Median is 7.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10
 Mode is 8.

Abstraction / Generalization

 Let us generalize what we’ve learned

and define Mean, Median and Mode
based from your experienced and
additional input of mine.

 Let’s have first the mean.  Sir, Mean is the most commonly used
measure of central tendency. It is used
to describe a set of data where the
measure cluster or concentrate at a
point.

 Very good! In other words, Mean is

the sum of measures x divided by the
number N of measures in variable. It
is symbolized as X . And to find the
mean of an ungrouped data, we use
the formula,

∑𝑥
X =
𝑁
Where, ∑𝑥 is the summation of x.
And N is the number of values of x.

 Next we have is the Median.  Sir, Median is the middle value or term in
a set of data arranged according to
size/magnitude (either increasing or
decreasing)
 Correct! Example.
The library logbook shows that 58,
60, 54 ,35 and 97 books, respectively,
were borrowed from Monday to Friday
last week. Find the median.
Solution:
 First, arrange the data in
increasing order.
35, 54, 58, 60, 97

 We can see from the arranged

numbers that the middle value
is 58.
 Since the middle value is the
median, then the median is 58.

 Lastly, the mode of the ungrouped  Sir, the Mode is the measure or value
data. which occurs most frequently in a set of
data. It is the value with the greatest
frequency.

 Good job. Moreover, to find the mode

for a set of ungrouped data:
 Select the measure that
appears most often in the set.
 If two or more measures
appear the same number of
times, then each of the values
is a mode.
 If every measure appears the
same number of times, then the
set of data has no mode.

 I think we’re all set. So, let’s have a

group activity. Same group, and each
group will be given one manila paper
and one pentil pen. What you are
going to do is answer the problem or
give what is ask/written in the manila
paper. I will give you five minutes to
do the activity.

 But before that let us have first our

leader that will report or present your
work.

 Now class, what have you learned  Sir, from the activity that we’ve had, I
from the activity? learned so many things. Specifically,
how to get the mean, median and mode
of the ungrouped data.
 Very good! You were able to do a lot
of activities for Mean, Median and
Mode based from our discussion.

 In the future, can you define mean,  Yes sir.

median and mode faster now?

Application
 If that is the case, can you cite
examples in real life setting where we
can state the importance of studying:
 Mean  Mean can be used to compute the
average of our grade in every level.
 Median  Median can be helpful in decision-
making, this where we can stay in the
middle so that we can weigh things over.

 Mode in our daily lives?  Mode can be applied in majority rules.

 Amazing! Moreover, if you wish to find

the average grade on a test for your
class but one student fell asleep and
scored 0, the mean would show a
much lower average because of one

low grade, while the median would

show how the middle group of
students scored. However, the mode
occurs most when looking at a set of
information, the mode is simply the
number that occurs most often in the
set, Imagine that you live in a small
town where most of the people are
employed by a factory and earn
minimum wage. One of the factory
owners lives in the town and his salary
is in the millions of dollars. This is
where the measure of mode can be
useful in the real world. It tells you
what most of the pieces of data are
doing within a set of information.

clarifications with regards to our new
topic?

 Okay, get one-half sheet of paper.
