#86 The Multiband Vocal EQ Trick


1. Insert a multiband compressor on the vocal track
2. Set the frequency bands for the areas you want to process
3. Lower the threshold in the areas that need compression; raise the gain
where needed
4. Set the attack to fast and release to medium
NOTE: Set the compression equal to the amount of boost applied

#87 The Dual Compressed Vocal Trick


1. Insert a limiter on the vocal channel
2. Set to 10:1 or more to limit peaks
3. Insert a compressor after the limiter
4. Set to 2:1 and compress to keep vocal level even
NOTE: Set both processors for fast attack and medium release

#88 The Awesome Airy Vocal Trick
1. Duplicate the vocal channel
2. Compress hard (6 to 10dB or more)
3. Insert an EQ after the compressor in the signal chain
4. Boost at 8k to 12kHz and filter lows below 600Hz
5. Add into the mix just under main vocal channel
NOTE: You might have to de-ess the new channel

#89 The Dual Untimed Slap Trick


1. Create a new stereo delay channel
2. Set each side of the delay anywhere from 60 and 120ms, at different
delays and not timed with the track
3. Insert a modulation processor after the delay
4. Set to multi-mono, then set each channel differently
5. Add underneath the main vocal channel

#90 The Single Word Delay Trick


1. Create a dedicated delay channel
2. Set the delay time and repeats as needed
3. Automate the channel aux send
Note: Touch automation mode works best

#91 The Amazing Agro Vocal Trick Trick


1. Duplicate the vocal channel
2. Insert a compressor and set for 6 to 10dB of compression
3. Insert a distortion plugin after the compressor in the signal path and set
to mild distortion
4. Insert an EQ after the distortion plugin and boost the mids around 2k to 4kHz
5. Mix in subtly with the original vocal

#92 The Super Stereo Vocal Delay Trick
1. Insert a stereo delay on its own channel and send a vocal to it via an aux
2. Set the delay for 1/4 or 1/8th note on one side and dotted or triplet note
on the other
3. Set the Feedback for a couple of repeats
4. Set the amount of effect to taste

#93 The Pitchy Vocal Coverup Trick


1. Create a new effects channel
2. Insert a pitch corrector plugin
3. Set one side down 9 cents or the other up 9 cents
4. Add 20ms of delay on the left and 40ms on the right for a thicker sound
5. Send from aux on the vocal channel and mix until the vocal tuning is less
noticeable

1. Create a dedicated delay channel
2. Set the delay to less than 100ms timed to the track
3. Insert a chorus or other modulator after the delay in the signal path
3. Set the chorus mix to greater than 50% and deeper than normal
5. Send from aux on the vocal channel until the vocal tuning is less
noticeable

#95 The Sci-Fi Robot Voice Trick


1. Insert a flanger on the voice track and set the mix to at least 70%
2. Set the rate to at least 3Hz, depth and feedback to around 70% until the
sound is metallic
3. Create a new track and import the SMPTE code
4. Insert a gate on the new track and key from the voice track
5. Add the SMPTE until you can just hear it

#96 The Dynamically Dry Vocal Trick
1. Duplicate the vocal track
2. Compress 6 to 10dB or more
3. Insert a stereo delay after the compressor in the signal path
4. Set one side to 9ms and the other to 15ms and the mix to around 35%
5. Adjust the mix for the correct delay level for the track

#97 The Abbey Road ADT Vocal Trick


1. Insert a delay on the vocal track and set the mix to around 35%
2. Set the delay time to around 75ms, the rate to 1.3Hz and the depth to 15%
3. Automate all three parameters with the random tool
NOTE: Use small automation steps

#98 The Mono Spring Vocal Trick


1. Insert a mono spring reverb to the vocal track after the other processors
2. Set the mix to about 35% and vary to fit the track
3. Set the decay time to fit the track
4. Add just enough to barely hear it in the track

#99 The Big Background Pan Trick


1. Pan the lowest harmony voices towards the center
2. Pan the highest harmony voices towards the outside
3. Any mid-harmonies should be panned in between
NOTE: The lower voices in the center makes more room for the lead vocal

#100 The Expanding Energy Background Trick
1. Develop an acceptable harmony balance for the first chorus
2. Automate the highest harmony so it increases slightly (1 to 2dB) in each
chorus thereafter.
NOTE: Be sure not to increase the high harmony so much that it seems out
of balance with the rest

#101 The Large And Thick Background Trick


1. Create two new stereo chorus channels
2. Pan one chorus to the left and slightly to the right, and the other to the
left and slightly to the right
3. Set one chorus to a deeper depth and faster modulation
4. Send the same amount to each chorus from an aux send on the
background tracks or subgroup
