E. Methodology
1. Research Design
The quasi – experimental design was utilized in the study.
2. Research Environment
The study was conducted was conducted at Biking Technical Vocational
High School.
3. Research Respondents
The participants were the two sections of Grade 10 students in Biking
Technical Vocational High School, Dauis, Bohol S.Y. 2016 – 2017.
4. Sampling Procedure
The probability sampling was used in the research.
F. Findings
1. Academic Performance. The profile of the students’ academic
performance shows that all students in both groups were moderately
satisfactory since it has a zero percentage of failing marks.
2. Performance in Reading Comprehension. The profile of the students’
reading performance reveals that both groups need improvement. In
addition, both groups are under needing improvement /moderately
satisfactory level.
3. Overall Reading Comprehension Score. The overall results in the
reading performance of the students in the control and experimental
groups showed a significant difference in their score. The results reveal
that the advanced organizers employed in the experimental group were
effective in improving students’ comprehension
4. There is a significant difference in the reading comprehension test
between the control and experimental groups.
G. Conclusion
It was concluded that the use of skimming and graphic organizers was more
effective than the direct way of teaching short stories. The increase in the
scores in the experimental group showed that the teaching technique helped
students in understanding and making sense of the text.
