Abstract

Energy plants an importnatn role in achieving the goals in social,

economic, and environment for sustainable development for supporting national
economic. Total of national energy consumption will rise but amount of domestic
oil production has decreased. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is one of the
alternatives way that havebeen developed to increase the production of petroleum
using surfactant injection method. The main objective oh this surfactant injection
method is to increase the thrust and lower the surface tension of the oil trapped in
pores of rock so that the oil escapes and easily lifted to the surface. This research
focuses on review hydrodynamics using the variation of Reynold number in the
surfactant injection and the size of reservoir rocks to obtain optimum conditions
in modeling EOR.
Recovery is the main stages of production oil from a reservoir. Nowadays
oil recovery has done in three ways, there is primary recovery, secondary
recovery, and tertiary recovery or EOR, one of which using surfactant injection
method. One of the factor that influence the process of injection of surfactant in
the reservoir is variation of the Reynold number on the surfactant injection
process solution and the size of reservoir rocks.
This research was conducted by injecton 5.000 pm brine solution nad
0,016 M Methyl Ester Sulfonat (MES) surfactant. The solution of brine and the
MES surfactant injected continuously at a flow rate with the variation of the
Reynold number (1,000;1,500;2,500;4,000;5,000;6,000) into the reservoir model
containing a number of oil trapped in sandstone rock with variation in size : +4 -
2; +6 -4; and +8 -6 mesh. Then obtained of oil recovery and permeability to
analyze comparison the Reynold number and the size of rocks with oil recovery
and permeability.
Research result shown that if the reynold numbers is increase so the oil
recovery increased. But the necessary of surfactant is increased to. At this
research, the Reynold number have optimum oil recovery is 2,500 because the
ratio of oil recovery between necessary surfactant is biggest, that is 0,21 ml/g,
and have the result that permeability of rocks is constant. At the research of
variations of size rocks, the result shown if the size of rocks increased then oil
recovery be found is increased, which is if the size of rocks increase so
permeability of rocks is increased then the solution of surfactant easily drives oil
lifted to surface.
