S.M.A.R.T. ACTION PLAN

Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all
have an important role to play. For example, a larger number of plant species means greater
variety of crops, greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life forms and
healthy ecosystems can better withstand and recover from a variety of disasters. Therefore, as
humans dominate this planet, one should be able to preserve the diversity in wildlife.

Despite knowing about the biodiversity’s importance for a long time, human activity has
been causing massive extinctions. The Philippines is a mega biodiversity country, but it is also
often seen as a country of ecological ruin whose biodiversity is on the verge of collapse. Decades
of environmental neglect have pushed ecosystems to their limit, often with deadly repercussions
for the human population.is conservation in the Philippines a lost cause? The loss and
degradation of tropical ecosystems throughout the planet are threating numerous species with
extinction and thereby driving a biodiversity crisis with serious consequences for human well-
being

 SPECIFIC

As a La Sallian Student, one must practice the core values such as zeal for service,
communion in mission, and passion for excellence. Thus, everyone must be aware in the
environmental issues here in the Philippines. As a group, we want to have an in-depth research,
quasi-immersions, interviews and advocacies which are related to the given issue (Loss of
Biodiversity and Extinction).

Who is/are responsible? Since this state experiences such troubles in the environment, the
person who must be responsible is the people. The people who engage themselves in learning
such solution in preventing the common problems in nature as well as those who are not mainly
educated about the said issue, are entitled to have the responsibility to preserve nature. DENR
created a roadmap with clear direction on how we can achieve sustained growth – it is called the
Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (PBSAP). IT WAS APPROVED BY THE
President in 1997 thru Malacañang Memorandum Order No. 289. PBSAP identified six strategic
actions based on the comprehensive assessment of the status of the Philippine Biodiversity,
principle problems, threats, issues, and gaps confronting biodiversity conservation. DENR is
located at the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau – Department of Environment and Natural
Resources, NAPWC Quezon Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
 MEASURABLE

The goals of this output are to raise awareness to the people about the loss of biodiversity
and extinction here in the Philippines and provide some ways on how to prevent this kind of
problem. In order to demonstrate and evaluate the given goals, the team will have these
consultations to the experts and also engage ourselves in some activities which tackle about the
conflicts in the environment. There will be an assigned evaluator who is in charge to monitor the
plan of action in a week. This will ensure that the group will completely achieve the goal and the
schedule in the social awareness output.

 ACHIEVABLE

The abovementioned category explains that the particular goals of this social awareness
output are to raise awareness to the people about the loss of biodiversity and extinction here in
the Philippines and provide some ways on how to prevent this kind of problem. Another goal is
to engage ourselves or lobby to such organizations which aim in conserving the status of nature.
Achieving this kind of goals will help us sustain the development of the state for state provides
the sufficient needs of the citizens to have a good and better life and to live for the better future.
These goals may just be easy to neglect, but rest assured that if these will be achieved, a great
impact will be produced – a brighter future to the youths.

 RELEVANT

A La Sallian student must exercise the core values such as passion for excellence,
communion in mission, and zeal for service. Thus, the goals in creating a better future truly
depict the relation to the key responsibilities not only as a student but also a youth who pertains
to be an advocate of change. Biodiversity and extinction is related to each other as people and
nature does the same way. Therefore, the goals which had set define the responsibilities as not
only a student but also the protector of the Creation of God.
