To Whom It May Concern:

It has been my pleasure to supervise Janel Sanders as she completed her Extended Practicum (20 hours per
week) this semester in a second grade classroom at Jefferson Elementary School in San Diego Unified
School District. Next fall Janel will be completing her full time student teaching in preparation for
graduation with a Multiple Subject Credential and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

As a retired elementary principal and district administrator, I can tell you that Janel is a highly skilled and
enthusiastic teacher candidate. She has demonstrated her skills to teach academic content standards required
for a multiple subject grade level class. The second grade classroom she worked in this year provided her
with experience teaching many English learners, students with IEP’s and some behavioral challenges. She
dealt with all of these challenges with professionalism beyond expectations. Her knowledge, skills set,
personal experiences and love of teaching and learning help her bring the subject matter to life for her
students. Her use of technology and teaching strategies help make the subject matter comprehensible and
accessible to all students.

In addition, Janel does a wonderful job of planning instruction, monitoring student learning during
instruction and using formative and summative assessments.

Janel has a wonderful rapport and mutual respect with the students and uses classroom management
strategies effectively. She is a hard worker and collaborates well with peers, parents and members within the
education community.

I strongly recommend Janel Sanders as a teacher for consideration for your school site. Janel is ready for her
own classroom. Continued professional growth and additional experience will only further her abilities to
shine as a very strong teacher candidate!

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions.

Sincerely,

Judy Shades, M. Ed.
