The successful candidate will plan, develop and undertake a portfolio of independent and
original research, which is aligned, and contributing to the School’s research strategy and
objectives. They will also maintain a track-record of high-quality peer-reviewed research
publications and outputs, present and disseminate research findings at conferences, seminars
and other similar events and contribute to the School’s interdisciplinary research culture and
environment. The successful candidate will also support and contribute to the development,
submission and attainment of research grant funding. You will be expected to jointly supervise
postgraduate research students to timely submission and completion and supervise and
assess undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. You will also be expected to contribute
to the planning, development and delivery of short courses, continue professional development
and online/blended learning provision, such as MOOCs.

For the appointment of the Grade 8 post, you will need to demonstrate a track-record of
internationally-excellent peer-reviewed research publications and outputs and demonstrate a
leading role in the planing, development, submission and securing of research grant funding.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in Area Studies or a related discipline,
such as Anthropology or Geography. You will have an up-to-date and comprehensive
knowledge of research of the area study of an Eastern Europe country(s) and/or Russia and
an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of debates surrounding the development and
application of and challenges to Critical Area Studies. Having a working knowledge of a
language of the region would be essential and also a developing international research profile
in the discipline. You will have experience of contributing to the initiation, planning,
development and delivery of research projects and grant applications and experience of
engagement and knowledge exchange with academic and non-academic audiences to
disseminate and promote research. Experience of delivering teaching, assessment and
feedback at either undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels is also an essential requirement
as is excellent Information Technology skills, including experience of using virtual learning
environments and other relate learning technologies. The ability to work both independently
and as a part of multidisciplinary teams of academics and professional support staff, and the
ability to effectively plan and manage your own time and workload is essential.
