Circuit-breakers that have been in service for many years no longer meet current reliability require-
ments. Although these breakers still operate perfectly, they should be gradually replaced.
Routine maintenance operations do not always completely satisfy your requirements.
Problems relating to functionality, coordination and safety –such as the need to improve electri-
cal and mechanical performances, to enlarge the installation or to adapt it to the standard - can, in

It is possible to replace the older types of air circuit-breakers as Otomax, Novomax, Megamax, with
the latest Emax series by using the most conventional type of retrofitting kit.This includes: custom-
engineered migration connections, installation tools, safety shields and instructions manuals.
The expertise required for the installation job is minimal and can be made out directly by the cus-
tomer.

Hybrid retrofitting kit for air circuit-breakers with moulded-case circuit-

breakers
For those plants which require a minimum downtime for upgrades, ABB SACE has studied special
retrofitting kits for the replacement of the older types of air circuit-breakers 800-1250-1600 A as
Otomax and Novomax G30, with up-to-date moulded-case circuit-breaker type Isomax S7.
This type of solution allows putting the new apparatus directly in the fixed part of Otomax or Novomax
G30 circuit-breakers.
The easy installation can be made out directly by the customer with a very fast replacement.

Moulded-case retrofitting kit

Retrofitting kits designed for old series moulded-case breakers save on the investment necessary
for electrical equipment and require a minimum downtime for their installation.
Generally made by adaptation plates for the corresponding terminals, retrofitting kits for moulded-
case circuit-breakers are fitted for prompt insertion into the old breaker’s fixed part. Under request
and against technical verification, retrofitting kits for moulded-case circuit-breakers may be fitted
with adaptation plugs for auxiliary applications so that only minimal mechanical work has to be done
on the panel door.
