By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to understand with support longer simple narratives on a wide range of
familiar topics by responding to 5 true/false questions correctly.

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to understand with little or no support more complex questions by
responding to 5 WH questions correctly.

ACTIVITIES: I. PRE-LESSON
Teacher brings a small gift and shows it to the pupils and asks whose birthday falls on that day/ week. All
pupils sing a birthday song for that particular pupil and teacher gives the present to him/her.

II. LESSON

ACTIVITY 1
i. Pupils listen to an excerpt on a birthday celebration read by the teacher/ pupil twice. (Refer to Attachment
1)

ii. Pupils answer 5 true/false questions based on the excerpt. (Refer to Attachment 2)

ACTIVITY 2 (Group work) ROUND TABLE & RALLY TABLE

Pupils listen to explanation of the tasks.

Your best friend’s birthday is next week. You want to surprise him/her. In your group, plan a
surprise birthday party for him/her. These are some of the items that you need to consider;
1. When the birthday party is.
2. Where the venue is.
3. What the menus are.
4. Who the guests are.
5. How to surprise the birthday boy/girl.
