2018 MUSE Conference Workshops

601 - Revenue Cycle Optimization – Improving Customer Experience In and Out of the
Business Office
Most industries today outside of healthcare treat the customer experience as one that begins before a
purchase. And, while doing so, have succeeded in producing high customer retention and revenue. In
healthcare, many treat the experience as though it begins when a patient walks through the doors of a
facility. The reality is that the customer experience starts well before that and remains well after the end
of that care encounter.

In this session, we will define the term “Patient Customer Experience”, provide a guide to optimizing the
revenue cycle, describe the business impact of achieving the gold standard of Customer Experience in
healthcare, and define the role that all departments play — not just the business office — in creating
lifetime patient customers who choose a facility as their preferred provider.

Whether your facility is using MEDITECH Client Server or migrating to 5.67, 6.0, or 6.1, this session will
provide you with tools to educate your peers and implement a new innovative approach to the revenue
cycle that removes the burden from sitting on the shoulders of just the business office.

Areas of Focus:
• Key patient points of entry before an encounter begins
• Benefits of an optimized revenue cycle
• Documentation driven and supply management approach
• Chart completion/coding
• Revenue Integrity & patient accounting
• Accountability
• Metrics
• MEDITECH’s platform as a solution for optimizing the revenue cycle

Duration: Full-day

702 - Custom BCA Dashboards with Visual Insight
Hospitals using MEDITECH’s Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA) application realize the value of quickly
and efficiently analyzing and visualizing their data with dashboard-style reports. BCA lets you move
beyond the standard content with Visual Insight, a BI tool that allows users to create custom dashboards
that present your data using dynamic and interactive visualizations.

We’ll take an in-depth look at how to add visualizations to the standard dashboards, how to create new
dashboards from scratch, both using existing datasets and creating new ones to define your own
metrics. One of the most compelling features of Visual Insight is the ability to incorporate external data
into your dashboards so it can be displayed alongside your MEDITECH data. We’ll demonstrate how to
connect to different types of data sources, define your attributes and measures, “wrangle” the data and
make it available for presentation within your custom dashboard.

If you already have or are considering adding BCA to your MEDITECH EHR, come to our Tuesday Training
workshop on BCA Visual Insight.

703 - The Alphabet Soup of Clinical Quality Measures Reporting and Reimbursement: 2018
Updates
CMS is transitioning to what the they call "a new and more responsive regulatory framework" for quality
reporting and reimbursement. CMS goals are "…electronic health records helping physicians, clinicians,
and hospitals to deliver better care, smarter spending, and healthier people". We are already seeing a
transformation of fee for service into value-based care models driven by the Value Based Purchasing,
Quality Payment Program, MACRA, Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Alternative
Payment Models (APM). Healthcare organizations are now driven not by Meaningful Use or quantity of
services, but instead by value-based care and risk-based payment models that focus on quality
outcomes for reimbursements.

In this training session we will review:

• How CMS is aligning clinical quality measures (CQMs) to reduce the reporting burden for
healthcare organizations and providers. We will cover the vision and goals for achieving quality
alignment for CMS.
• We will dive into the following CMS reporting programs and how they interact with each other:
Value-Based Purchasing (VBP), Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), Merit-
based Incentive Payments (MIPS), Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR), The Joint
Commission (ORYX), Outpatient Quality Reporting (OQR), and Alternative Payment Models
(APM).
• How the Eligible Hospital and Eligible Clinicians reimbursement models will change in 2018 and
going forward.
• Compare and contrast the requirements for quality measure reporting and identify strategies to
ensure compliance.
• The potential impact to hospital reimbursement of current and proposed programs that will
affect quality reporting for hospitals and providers.
• How to improve efficiency and quality by aligning measures across initiatives.
• Where to find current information (and breaking news) on each of these Quality Initiatives.

In the past, quality reporting initiatives involved abstractors sifting through a small sample set of
unstructured data in paper charts, manually converting their findings to discrete reportable data. This
approach is time consuming and requires extensive amount of resources from both IT and Quality staff.
Aligning quality initiatives can improve efficiencies and processes, and contribute to population health
management efforts, both locally and nationally.

At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will be able to apply what they’ve learned about
aligning Clinical Quality Measures across initiatives specific to their organization to improve
reimbursements, reduce their reporting burden, increase efficiencies, and realize the benefits of
Population Health Management.

If you are responsible for hospital quality, IT, clinical quality measure initiatives or have a vested interest
in making sure your organization is aligning quality measures reporting, this informational session is a
must.

802 - Report Designer Fundamentals

Does your hospital have an extensive library of NPR-based reports? Are you migrating to MEDITECH 6.1
or have you already? Either way, you’ll need to know more about Report Designer, the native tool for
reports based on MEDITECH’s Advanced Technology applications. As the logical starting point for many
reports from your MEDITECH EHR, Report Designer is fundamentally different from NPR Report Writer,
and the only “out of the box” tool you can use to report from the M-AT applications, including ABS, BAR,
HIM, PCS, REG and others.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss the different reporting tools available with MEDITECH, then dive in to the
basics of using Report Designer. Report Designer features a more intuitive “point and click” design that
allows you to build reports quickly and without having to learn underlying programming syntax. Topics
we’ll cover include the underlying data storage hierarchy and schema, using the Object Explorer, and a
walkthrough of the basic Report Designer screens and functions. We’ll also demonstrate how to build a
basic report from start to finish, with attention paid to keys and indexes to ensure your data retrieval is
accurate and efficient.

803 - Lean Management

Imagine if you could help create an environment where patient wait times were minimal, the
organization saved money, all employees felt a sense of purpose, and the patients were always
delighted with their experience! Does this sound like a dream? There are ways to achieve this but it
does require a change in culture... and that culture is a lean culture.

Simply, lean means creating more value for customers and is an approach to running an organization
through continuous improvement. Lean is not about tools but it is about thinking. Every member of the
organization needs to think about a better way to get things done. We need to think about how we can
do our work better, experiment with new ideas, and learn from these experiments. That is the lean way!

Join us to learn more about how lean management can benefit all areas of your organization. During this
session, we will not only discuss what it means to be lean but how this can be applied to you through
the below topics:
• What is lean?
• Why do healthcare organizations choose this framework and what are the long-term benefits?
• What it means to create a lean culture
