SHOCK

The goal of the cardio-pulmonary system is to deliver O2 to the body

Shock is a state of vital organs not receiving adequate O2

3 Main Types of Shock

Hypovolemic - Low volume
Cardiogenic - Broken pump (heart)
Septic - Immune response interferes with vascular tone

Normal Oxygen Delivery System

Non Vital organs

Vital organs

With each type of shock a different portion of the O2 deliver system is effected:
Hypovolemic - The initial insult is low blood volume

Decreased Temp
Low Blood Volume
Decreased CO
Increased HR
Decreased BP Non Vital organs

Increased SVR
Decreased CVP-Preload
