Chamber - Retribution Character Solo

Elara, Tyro of the Third Chamber, has been forged into the perfect instrument for the
Retribution of Scyrah's war against human arcanists. She stands prepared to face any
danger in service to the Retribution. As she darts from foe to foe, each kill imbues her
myrmidons with power they in turn unleash against key targets.

in practice.

Thoughts on Elara

Elara in a nutshell
Elara has three aspects:
Fueling her battlegroup with focus.
Boosting her battlegroup via spells.
Mediocre melee capability.

It looks like she should be charging in on the edges of units to pick a couple off and

allocating to her jack, who comes in to clean up and keep her safe, but it just does not often
work out in practice. That being said, it is possible to use her in melee, paired up with
something like a griffon, but don't expect her to survive long doing so. Outside of Rahn's
feat turn you should also probably not be using Convection due to her low focus and its
lack of special effects, which unfortunately forces her into the focus battery role much of
the time. Not that its a bad space to be though, since ret has a number of good jacks with
guns and our casters can be very focus hungry, so taking this strain off can definitively be
worth the points, and if the jack she is controlling does happen to die she can still take
down the odd model and control/contest flags/zones.

Thoughts on which 'jacks to take

First thing to get out the way, Beat Back and Side Step do not work out of activation.
Running an Aspis on her is probably not a sensible idea.
In general, Guns are Good. You don't want to expose your squishy journeyman and
risk having an inert jack. That being said, there are a few melee focused jacks that
can be taken with her, you just have to pay close attention to positioning.
The Griffon is one such jack. Its cheap, provides an accurate (counter) charge, but
could also do with loads of focus to get its job done hunting solos (three focus
gives you boosted everything and one of the longer melee threat ranges in the
game).
Two other lights that have guns are Moros and the Gorgon, which lets them get
work done when you don't want to commit them to melee, without leaning too many
points into a soft model.
Both the Colossals are good, if expensive options. You want to give them lots of
focus each turn to make the most out of their gun batteries, and Elara lets you do
that. Just watch out for Backlash and Feedback.
The Banshee makes use out of both the extra focus and countercharge. Useful tool
for keeping a caster alive against a Butcher3 assassination run (or other similar tricks
that rely on spells and being in close range) by repositioning a wailing bubble, but

don't expect it to survive.
The Manticore loves having access to lots of focus when its not putting down
covering fire templates.
You can put other jacks on Elara, but you need a really good reason to do so since your
either bringing them for their melee ability (Imperatus), Arc Nodes (Phoenix), or they just
don't need lots of focus (Daemon, just martial him or use an arcanist to power boost).
Imperatus on Elara with Rahn is one of the more common options, but your hanging a
potent and expensive melee jack off of a soft solo, you need to be very cautious of how and
where you commit the pair of them (or just don't play against a list with many guns in it).

Drawbacks & Downsides

For such an dynamic looking model, her combat ability is quite lackluster due to her poor
MAT (for a combat solo) and lack of ranged weapons.
