Dear Mrs.

Michele

Throughout this whole quarter, our professor continuously taught us how to be a


comprehensive and logic writer. I believe that I not only learn several practical and skillful
writing skills in the Mrs. Michele’ class, but also I tried to understand how to apply these skills
during writing and revising processes. As Mrs. Michele taught us, following reasonable writing
process is prerequisite of writing good papers. In my opinion, Living Picture Narrative and
Podcast Project, among my three main assignments, are most representative of how I improve
my writing step by step.

Revision is a very long process, we may be get lost during revising paper.

However, we still need to encourage ourselves to keep revising before turn in. It is a
necessary key to solid papers

I tried my best to state completely about what I
did during Youth Olympic Games. Actually, I tried
to point all details happened, in my opinion, which
Youth Olympic Game is the main topic of could meet the task’s claims. However, I found
first project that I did not focus on my main topic. The main
topic should not be the whole process of Youth Olympic Games; Also, Mrs. Michele told me
that I should pay more attention to the process of developing my communicational skills and
being more patient instead of talking about what I get from this activity briefly. Both of my
writing partners and professor directly pointed out of this problem which is most serious in
my paper. Thus, I decided to mainly revise my paper in the part of focusing on my topic.

 Second Draft& Third draft:


Most difficult part of writing is revision instead of writing first draft. Due to my main problem
is a little bit digression from my main topic, I delete all descriptions which are not related to
my topic initially. Then I tried to enrich all of descriptions about how I become more literate
detailed and complete. The mental activity, facial expression and catalogue are helpful tools
to construct this paper. For example, when I tried to clarify about how I solve the
contradictions between the foreign guests and me, I focused on the transitions of my mental
activities and stated clearly what decisions I made due to my mental activities. Therefore, my
paper becomes more topic related and connected between each paragraph. This process
largely improves my ability of how improve paper from a macro perspective

lost transition between
my points which made
hard for my audiences to
follow my ideas.
Honestly, I did not detect
that it is problem, and I My professor always gives me useful suggestion about paper revising
think it could be one acceptable writing styles. However, when I sit down and read carefully
about my paper from the audience’s perspective, I found that lots of two separate points were
continuously stated without any transitions or explanations. Therefore, I found that reading
own papers several times from a different angle is necessary for revision part, and I tried to
improve my papers by finding own paper’s problems

Why I chose this paper as one of projects in E-portfolio


I chose this assignment as one of my portfolio papers because I believed that my Living Picture
Narrative achieved the academic goals that Mrs. Michele gave to us.
 Firstly, my topic is novel and interesting which contained plenty things I can talk about.
 Secondly, I revised my papers carefully in several ways. Apart from suggestion given by
professor I talked before, peer revision still provides lots of help such as having more
opportunities to read other people’s papers which can be used to compare with own
papers.
 Helping and pointing out other people’s advantages and disadvantages helped me to be
a logical reader and find problems in own papers.
 I am also very confident on my grammar part because of editing exercise in the class and
help from writing tutors.
Hence, I strongly believe that after revising carefully, my readers can completely follow all of
my ideas through the whole papers.

Podcast Project:
Mrs. Michele told us it is a mandatory assignment that we must hand in; Therefore, I keep on
putting my effort on revising this project.

Different types of writing compared to the Living Picture Narrative and Podcast
Apart from how to revise our papers, Mrs. Michele introduced additional important element
of writing process -doing the research. Our professor emphasized on the difference between
first research and second research. It was the first time that I do first research to get
information about my topic. Hence, it is a good chance for me to improve my skills of doing
research.

Finally, I do self-check that what I learnt through the quarter corresponding the lists
given by the syllabus.
1. Obviously, I developed the category of ‘process’. For every main writing project, Mrs.
Michele assigned at least three drafts for us to do. The suggestions given by my partners
and professor are so useful to revise my paper. In addition, Mrs. Michele provided us with
more chances of reading different articles including sample essays or related sources; And
I realized that, reading part should be necessary element of writing process. After taking
the class, I have ability to illustrate my ideas logically based on the reliable sources.

2 Furthermore, I know more about the ‘research’. Firstly, Mrs. Michele helped us distinguish
primary sources from secondary sources. Also, we know how to select credible sources. For
example, for credible secondary sources, it should be academic, contains author’s names,
date… Observation is one form of primary sources. It is maybe not very accurate, but it can
provide us with plenty information and it is a necessary part of research’ beginning. And now,
I am a person who can successfully combine primary and secondary sources as reliable proof
to strength my argument. It helps my articles becomes much more convincing.

Main ideas and what I am going to do?


There are enormous useful skills that Mrs. Michele taught us, which help me to strength my
academic-writing abilities to prepare for further writing classes in the future. Also, I also can
apply these writing skills into my major courses. As a math major student, I will write a lot of
academic research papers. For example, when I want to post my report websites, I should
carefully select the best language forms to correspond to the specific discourse community
or my audience. However, Mrs. Michele trained us all of these stuff in the class, and I am much
more confident in writing than before.
