Motivation Letter

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to apply for the Master's degree program Software Systems Engineering at RWTH Aachen
University. I would like to express my appreciation for this opportunity.

Being an Indonesia’s scholar gives me a responsibility to develop my knowledge and skill. Thus, I can
bring better impact to my country. I wish to continue my study at RWTH Aachen University to provide
more insight of technology application in a developed country, to get widespread opportunities to get
global community relationships, and to gain advanced knowledge that supports my study.

RWTH Aachen University becomes my main consideration since it’s among Top 100 World University
Rankings 2018. It is the largest technical university in Germany and always maintains close links to
world-class industry. It is also a member of TU9, DFG and IDEA League. By winter semester of
2017/18, it has more than nine thousand international students from 131 countries. So, I am sure that
RWTH Aachen University will support me to achieve more and bring benefit to my homeland country.

RWTH Aachen University’s motto is Zukunft Denken, it means “Thinking of the Future”. It is
represented by its curriculum, like in the Software Systems Engineering master degree. It has many
advanced modules in computer science and information technology such as Advanced Machine
Learning, Advanced Virtual Reality, etc. This program allows students to adjust the courses by their
needs and interests.

Currently, I am in the last year of my undergraduate study and I will be finished in July 2018. I am
studying at Department of Informatics, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Institut
Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Surabaya, Indonesia. Here, I learn the combination of computer
science, software design, and project management. I am sure what I have learned are linearly compatible
with Software Systems Engineering program.

Since the beginning of my study, I have committed to equip myself with qualified competencies and to
continuously develop my knowledge and skill. I studied hard, as proven by my high GPA score 3.71 of
4.00. I participate in extracurricular to learn to collaborate. For example, I became the coordinator of a
national seminar of technology and was an active staff in the Department of Informatics Student
Association. I followed several competitions, one of them is Indonesia Information and Communication
Technology Award, so I could compete and improve my ability. I was involved in some incubators such
as StartSurabaya Startup Incubator and ITS Technology Incubator. I was also involved in application
development at 18th Asian Games and local government offices. I was also given an opportunity to do
my internship in Chevron Pacific Indonesia. All of these let me learn to work professionally and to
know what industry requires.

I understand the challenges if I get this program. First, foreign language challenge. My strategy to
overcome this challenge is by learning English and then Deutsch. Second, it will be culture adaptation
challenge, but it won’t be a big problem since I’m used to it. Moreover, Aachen will be a nice place to
form relations since it is a multicultural city, a place where many international students from around
the world gather.

Thank you very much for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response.
