Chapter 6 Reliability

6.1 System Reliability

The BTS3006C is designed after overall analysis on the system reliability. It adopts the
following methods to enhance the system reliability.
l Load sharing
l Redundant configuration
l Optimized fault detection of boards and system
l Optimized fault isolation

I. Redundancy Design

The local bus uses redundancy design. The TRX mutual aid is also supported.

II. Reliability Design

The BTS3006C can automatically detect and diagnose faults in the hardware or
software and report them as alarms. It can also detect environmental status and report
the abnormality in time.

6.2 Hardware Reliability

The BTS3006C adopts the following methods to enhance hardware reliability:
l Prevention Against Mistakenly Inserted Board
l Protection Against Excessive Rise in Temperature of the DDRM
l Reliability Design for Power Supply
l Excellent Lightning Protection Design

I. Prevention Against Mistakenly Inserted Board

When inserted into a wrong slot, the functional board cannot get into full contact with
the backplane. This prevents the equipment from being damaged.

II. Protection Against Excessive Rise in Temperature of the DDRM

When the temperature around the last level power amplifier is too high, the power
amplifier reports the excessive rise in temperature through an alarm.

III. Reliability Design for Power Supply

l The BTS3006C provides power failure protection for programs and data.
l The boards of the BTS3006C provide protection against excessive voltage and
current.
Commercial in Confidence Page 14 of 21
iSite BTS3006C Base Station System Description

l The boards of the BTS3006C provide protection against reverse-polarity

connection.

IV. Excellent Lightning Protection Design

The BTS3006C needs no external lightning protection device. The antenna ports of the
DDPM have the 8KA/40KA lightning protection capability. The lightning protection of
the BTS3006C is implemented by directly connecting the conductor inside the DDPM
antenna ports to the ground.

6.3 Software Reliability

The software reliability is reflected in the powerful capability of error tolerance. The
whole system gets corrupted when the software fails. That is, the system has self-repair
capability. Error tolerance of the BTS3006C is shown in the following aspects:

I. Regular Check on Key Resources

Seizure check is conducted on various software resources in the system. The check
mechanism can ensure the release of hung-up resources and the output of the related
logs and alarms.

II. Task Monitoring

When the software is active, the task monitoring function can monitor any possible fault
in the software or hardware. In addition, the detected faults can be reported. Task
status and system abnormalities can also be monitored.

III. Data Check

The system is able to perform regular or event-driven check on data consistency,

restore the data consistency selectively or preferably, and output related logs and
alarms.

IV. Saving Operation Log Information

The system records user operations within a certain period and saves the recorded
information to the system operation log. The operation log can be used to locate the
error or exception because of incorrect operation so that the system can be restored to
the normal state.
