How can hemp seed oil be used to produce biodiesel to reduce the amount of co2 being
emitted into the air?
Last year the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increased at record speed last
year to hit a level that has not been seen in more than three million years. Us scientists looked
at eighteen years worth of satellite images in Antarctica, and found that icebergs are losing
29,791,000km every year. The co2 levels in the air is extremely high and is going to affect
future generation of all species lives. Young kids with great potential lives put at risk due to the
bad air they are forced to breath. How can hemp seed oil be used to make biodiesel to reduce
the amount of co2 in the air. This project is targeted towards those who own their own cars.
The design must be able to power an engine and let out less co2 than fuel at the gas station.
That’s where I was trying to figure out a way to use hemp seed oil to make biodiesel to reduce
the amount of Co2 let out into the atmosphere.
Criteria Constraints
- Water content needs to be under 1.0 Methyl Alcohol could dissolve too quickly
- Must dissolve in methyl alcohol Might not have all the materials in class so
shipping for projects may take too long
- Pippet 1 0 School
- Funnel 1 0 School

Written Procedure
Phase 2- Separation:
1. After 8 hours, transfer the top layer of solution into a seperate glass jar using a funnel.
2. Label the glass jar “Unwashed Biodiesel.”
Phase 3- Testing:
1. Start LabQuest on a computer.
2. Connect Co2 Gas Sensor to LabQuest.
3. Set Co2 Gas Sensor range to 40,000 - 60,000.
4. Transfer 150 ml of hemp seed biodiesel to Co2 Gas Sensor jar.
5. Let Co2 Gas Sensor warm up for 90 seconds.
6. Hold down calibration button.
7. Release button when red light starts to blink.
8. Press start on LabQuest screen.
9. When LabQuest stops collecting data, remove the Co2 probe and record the final
temperature.
