E-CAP Sophomore

I am interested in Health Science and Therapeutic Services. I think it would be interesting to get the skills
to Assisting and Caring for Others. I am certain that the field of Psychiatry is the job I want because I
want to help people out with any disabilities or disorders. I know that people with mental and social
problems have a challenging time around others, but I am sure that I have a very special connection and
passion for this job, so I want to learn more about that field as well to help the people who need it.

Psychiatrists help analyze, evaluate, or prescribe a patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or
extent of mental disorder. The top five abilities psychiatrists have, would be… oral comprehension, oral
expression, written comprehension, inductive reasoning, and deductive reasoning. Their wages would
range from an entry level salary of 189,134 – 236,100 dollars.

The way I will prepare myself for a career is by taking classes that will help me understand it more, plus
an elective in Honors Human Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Perspectives when I am a junior or
senior in high school.

Some majors are Bachelor of Science in Psychology and going to a four-year medical school as well.
Right now I know that Duquesne University offers that kind of degree, but I want to look more at some
out of states schools, so I need to do more research in these areas. One of certifications I can earn is
PHD or Medical certification.
I would like to interview or job shadow someone at UPMC, Highmark, or Allegheny Health Network.

The interview I conducted was with Charles Garfield. He is a Psychologist at Santi and UCSF School of
Medicine. What I learned about this job is that you have the passion to care for who the patient love
and what accomplishment did they do in their lifetime. Also, it gives you the chance to help people who
they may not feel valued sometimes. But I will not be interested in that job because I want to be a
psychiatrist. I believe I feel that I can prescribe the right type of medication to the individual and I can
try to understand how they are feeling and what I can diagnosis to help them.
