OFFICIAL UCAFC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME - SEASON 2018

Saturday 24th March 2018

Hello everyone and welcome to Ilam fields for the second round of the MPL as we host Nelson
Suburbs. Welcome to Nelson staff, players and supporters, we wish you safe travels and hope
you enjoy your day at Ilam Fields.

Last week saw a great atmosphere at Ilam with the first round kicking off alongside our club day,
which was a huge success! Thanks to all the teams and players who came down to play and
support. Today we look forward to another entertaining match where we will surely see some
great football being played!

Today also sees the first round of the WPL being played. We would like to wish the best of luck
to our Women’s Premier team in their match against Halswell at English Park. Hopefully today is
a successful day for both our Premier League teams and good luck to all involved!

If you are watching the Universities vs Nelson game make sure you grab yourself a snag or a hot
drink to keep warm as the weather is supposed to be a little cold. Just look out for the red
gazebo!

Kesia Stock - Club President

Hello everybody, welcome to Ilam Fields for Round 2 of the 2018 MPL. On behalf of UCAFC,
welcome to the Nelson Suburbs staff and players. Safe travels to and from Nelson today.

Suburbs had a dominant 4-0 victory over FC Twenty 11 in Christchurch last week and will be
looking to their National League stars to continue their good start. We suffered defeat to
Cashmere Technical, and were disappointed with our output. We were stung by a 10 minute
cameo where we had no answers, having started the match brightly. Our second half was
much improved and showed our very inexperienced squad of 8 debutants that we have a
capable group this year.

This week has been one of honesty and ownership, and I look forward to a positive reaction
from our squad today.

Enjoy the match and Up Up Universities!

Well, after several months of preparation and pre-season the 2018 WPL season is upon us!
I am delighted to be back on-board as WPL coach this year after a tough but very positive first season
in 2017, and am very excited with the growing potential of this club both in the men’s and women’s
side of the game. Speaking from the women’s side of the club our women’s pathway has never been
stronger, and the girls have been working really hard for what is looking like a very promising season.
I would like everyone to join me in congratulating Jordan Coleman, who will be stepping up as WPL co
-coach alongside myself this season. He was an important part of our our team last year as PDL head
coach, and also stepped up as assistant coach for the WPL mid-way through the 2017 season.
We are also very lucky to have acquired Ian Naghi, another sport coaching student at UC with
fantastic knowledge in strength and conditioning, and who will be taking our Reserves side this year.
After retaining the majority of our group from last season and acquiring several new signings, we
have seen a huge increase in numbers this year which has led to us introducing a third competitive
team underneath our Premiers and Reserves. This is fantastic for the club and the girls game, and also
means we will have a lot more depth for our WPL side with more players to call upon.
Ashley Parent and Amira Abaza will also be joining our coaching staff as coaches of this new CWC
Gold side, both players from our WPL squad with excellent knowledge of the game and who I’m
confident will add a lot of value.
We kick-off our season this Saturday at English Park against newly promoted Halswell
United! Halswell are fresh from winning the PDL league last season and will be looking forward to
making their return to the WPL underneath their new coach Cory, who I'm sure will have them well
prepared for a very tough game!
I am very excited to see what our girls are capable of producing out on the football field this season,
and I hope you enjoy watching our games this season!
Looking forward to seeing you all on the football field!
