Psychology 2306 provides an overview of human sexual behavior, including gender roles, gender differences,
values regarding sexual behavior and intimacy, responsible personal decision making, the biology of sex, and
sexually transmitted diseases. 48 contact hours. Credit: Three semester hours.

sex and sexuality.

Discuss cultural differences in sexual attitudes and behaviors.

Identify the occurrence and causes of sexual variations.

Identify contraceptive methods and how these methods prevent conception.

EXAMS (50% of your grade)

Three exams (each worth 10% of your grade), plus a Final Exam (20% of your grade), will be given during the
semester. The first three exams will contain fifty to seventy-five (50-75) multiple-choice questions, a few short
essay questions, and will only cover the lecture and reading material since the previous exam, so they are non-
cumulative. The Final Exam will be cumulative and will contain one-hundred (100) multiple choice questions, and
several short answer essays. Refer to the course schedule listed in this syllabus for times or check the class
website for updated details.EXAMS MUST BE COMPLETED ON DATALINK / ACCUSCAN SCANTRONS OR
THEY WILL NOT BE GRADED (see first page of syllabus)

CRITICAL THINKING ASSIGNMENTS (20% of your grade)

These assignments are designed to help you think critically about topics we are discussing in class. ALL of these
assignments are to be uploaded to the eCampus DROPBOX no later than 11:59pm on the due date. NO LATE
ASSIGNMENTS will be accepted, no exceptions, so please do not ask.

WRITTEN PROJECT (10% of your grade)

This paper is required of all students. This brief paper (minimum 500 words) will involve your thoughts on living in
a hypothetical world in which nearly all public officials and corporate executives are lesbian or gay. How would
your perception of things change? How would you change and what would you be willing to do to rise up the
corporate ladder, or otherwise become wealthy? Full details on this assignment will follow in the coming weeks.

PARTICIPATION (20% of your grade)

Class Participation will constitute 20% of your final grade and will be based on 4 or more in class assignments,
discussions, quizzes and/or exercises.

GRADING SCALE: A=90-100% / B=80-89% / C=70-79% / D= 60-69% / F=0 – 59%

INCOMPLETES

A grade of incomplete will only be given in serious extenuating circumstances such as a death in the immediate
family or an illness that requires hospitalization. This is school policy. You must have a passing grade and supply
official documentation verifying the circumstance. An incomplete will NOT be given in the case of vacation plans,
job conflicts, apartment lease problems, social engagements or forgetting about the last exam. If you need an
incomplete, you must speak with the instructor, provide the documentation and fill out the required paperwork
before you leave.

The last day to drop with a "Q" is April 27, 2018

MAKEUP EXAMS

Makeup exams will be available in the Learning Center for exactly one week following the scheduled exam and
will contain different questions than the exams given in class. (If the exam is scheduled for Tuesday the 13th, the
makeup exam will be available from Wednesday the 14th through Monday the 19th). Extensions will only be given
in serious, extenuating circumstances such as a death or serious illness. If you cannot provide reasonable
verification of these circumstances, please do not ask for an extension. EXAMS MUST BE COMPLETED ON
DATALINK / ACCUSCAN SCANTRONS OR THEY WILL NOT BE GRADED (see first page of syllabus)

LATE ASSIGNMENTS

NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. If you are absent, please check your syllabus to see if an

Purpose
The purpose of this course is to increase the students understanding of human sexual behavior and decision
making as it applies to life from a standpoint of maintaining mental, social, and physical health. This course
will not only provide an additional choice for students pursuing an Associate of Arts degree with a psychology
or sociology major, it will also fulfill requirements for a behavioral science elective credit at four year
institutions and allow those students interested in pursuing a Bachelors degree in psychology or sociology to
continue work on their chosen major while enrolled at Blinn This course will contribute to the overall
education, civility, and personal well-being of Blinn Colleges student population.

Assessment
Program level student learning outcomes are measured by common assessments college wide. Course level
student learning outcomes are measured using varying assessments by campus.

Semester Schedule
Course objectives will be assessed by evaluating the student’s knowledge and understanding of course
material. This information will be obtained from student performance on a minimum of four major grades,
including three major exams, a comprehensive final (worth 10-30% of the course grade), written or other
assignments, and quizzes. As per Blinn College policy, participation in class will amount to at least 10% of the
student’s final grade. An average of at least 60% on all means of assessment is required for successful
completion of the course.

Individual instructors will insure that the course materials and evaluations are delivered in such a manner as
to fulfill the goals of the course. Since instructors have the freedom to structure their own classrooms,
presentations to suit individual teaching materials, styles and creativity, calendars may vary between classes.

Expanded Description
Human sexuality also discusses personal rights that individuals maintain legally and socially in their sexual
conduct. Students will be provided the opportunity to reflect on personal values and decision making.
