Statement of Purpose

Back when I was a kid, I used to play a game called ‘Need for Speed’ where you basically had to
evade from the police in different kinds of car. Evading wasn’t the most exciting part for me.
The intriguing part was how different cars had different accelerations, different top speeds and
different braking abilities. When I was in my 10th standard, my father took me to the local go-
kart school. That was my first real world experience with driving a vehicle. Afterwards, in my
11th standard, I fell in love with the concept of free body diagrams and how this simple concept
could solve real world problems. The questions of Kinematics and Newton’s laws of motions
made it way easier for me to visualize the everyday world around myself. So when the time
came to choose my major for undergraduate studies, Mechanical Engineering was the only
option which seemed to cater to my interest. But it wasn’t until my sophomore year, I finally
understood the greater meaning of being a mechanical engineer and how everything they do
change the world in real time.
In my 4th semester ,I took 5 engineering classes and 2 of them especially drew me in: Kinematics
of Machinery and Strength of Materials. Simultaneously, I was also pursuing my interest in the
field of cars by trying to get into the automobile club of the University, which I accomplished by
the end of my sophomore year. As our first project, we undertook the manufacturing of an ATV
for Mega ATV Championship. I was working in the Brakes and Tires department and was
responsible for raising funds for the vehicle. At the end we succeeded to arrange 1 lakhs. Being
the first real teamwork which would have major real life consequences, this served as a great
essence how people can be organized and put together to work to achieve a common goal.
Fast forward to 7th semester, having already taken an automotive course in 7th semester and
completed 2 designing courses, I was selected as the design head of the automobile club.
Having never been in a leadership position, it was a mixed feeling of fear, pride and a lot of
expectations. All our hard work finally seemed to be worth it, when we found ourselves
beaming with the 3rd position in the virtual round of Elite Go-Kart. Apart from that, I was also an
active member of the management club, took part in workshops.
At the end of the 2nd year, I did an Internship in an oil drilling company where I was exposed to
the drilling and the extraction process of the oil and natural gas. After my graduation, I started
interning as a design engineer for 6 months in an electric motorsports company, Imperial
Society of Automotive Engineers (ISIE). As I am writing this Letter of Motivation, I am still
interning at ISIE, designing go-karts and other products, which are later used to teach students
in workshops all over the country. The biggest learning curve till now has been the exposure to
the professional world and how to adapt according to the requirements.
Being house to numerous companies like Audi, BMW etc., Germany was a no brainer for my
destination for masters in Germany. The fact that Germany is the hub to Automobile field,
coupled with very low unemployment rate (3.7%) and negligible tuition fees, made it a much
easier decision for me to choose Germany over other countries. TUHH is one of the most well
renowned universities, not only in Germany but all over Europe. The University also boasts of
some eminent alumni-Thomas Wiegand to name a few. The most important reason for wanting
to join TUHH is- e-gnition Hamburg, the formula student team of TUHH. Having been a part of 3
vehicle development teams, it was always my dream to be part of a formula student team and
e-gnition gives me the perfect platform to fulfill that dream of mine. The fact that I am interning
in an electric motorsport company and e-gnition is also participating in E.v competition of the
Formula Student, makes me believe that I can be a useful asset to the team. I have given up
counting the number of times I have visited their website and contacted the team members
about possible openings in the team and their requirements, hopeful I will get an opportunity
to work with them.

Since childhood we have heard how meticulous the German engineering is. Be it the sleek and
beautiful designs of BMW or the luxurious Mercedes, Germany has shown the best version of
engineering and technology to the world and to be a part of that legacy, is a dream that many
cherishes to fulfill and I am no exception. I strongly believe that through intercultural synergies,
I can learn and contribute more to whichever company I will be working afterward.
Industrialization 4.0 has not only facilitated easy information transfer and trade across borders,
but also a necessity for people to understand each other’s working culture and social values, so
that an international trade can be made more and more sustainable.
The program at TUHH would prepare me well for what I ultimately intend to do in my life. With
some really intriguing projects undertaken by TUHH Technology GmbH these are exciting times
to be studying and working in Germany and to be a part of something very good for the future.
With my deep rooted interest in the German culture (the fact that I have already completed my
B1 and pursuing B2, is a testament to that fact) and the country itself, I hope you will give my
application due consideration and consider me worthy of giving me the opportunity of studying
in TUHH.
