Lesson Title: Jack-o-lanterns

Age Range: 2nd Grade/3rd Grade

Medium: Paper, Paint, Paint Brushes,
Apples, Sharpie

A. Description:
The purpose is to give students the opportunity to explore what it is like to create art with an
unusual tool. The lesson will start by asking what materials they have used to create art. After the
discussion, I will show them the tool we will be using to create an art piece with. I will provide the
students with paint and the materials for them to begin their artwork. I will show them an example
of the art project, which is to create a pumpkin using paint and an apple as the stamp. I will ask
the students to put a facial expression of their choice on the pumpkin using a sharpie. After the
students have finished creating their jack-o-lanterns, we will clean up and discuss why they chose
the expression they did and how they felt about creating art with an apple.
