The candidate engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate

his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families,
other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

The candidate should complete a reflective essay demonstrating how they can develop professional
based on situations from their student internship. Three artifacts detailing these relationships and
activities should be included.

Throughout my student internship I have sought out professional learning opportunities that
will help me grow in knowledge and skill as a music educator. Professional learning experiences allow
the teacher to learn about a variety of topics and skill sets that can then be taken back into the
classroom. These experiences also allow the educator to network with others and collaborate, share,
and educate each other on new ideas and techniques they have for the classroom.
While I was an intern at Geary County we were offered bi-weekly seminars that covered a
variety of topics. I was presented the opportunity to learn from educators in the county as well as
administrators. These seminars brought in various individuals to speak about their knowledge and
experiences they had with each topic. Some of the seminars offered covered diversity in the classroom,
incorporating technology, accommodating students with special needs, assessment, and how to speak
to your students in a way that is kind and direct. With each seminar I learned more about how to
accommodate every student in my future and current classroom through incorporating new pedagogical
strategies.
During my student internship I attended a day long workshop with other music educators from
the district that presented the pedagogy of Orff Schulwerk. During this day long workshop the educators
from the district were able to act as students in the classroom while the leader of the workshop acted as
the teacher. Throughout the day I participated in lessons as if I was the student in the classroom while
the leader of the workshop taught the lessons. After a lesson was presented and practiced we were able
to discuss with the workshop leader what strategies were used and what the end goals and objectives of
the lesson were.
With each new professional learning experience I grow as a student and future educator and
come back to my classroom with a new strategies, knowledge, and skills. I look forward to attending
more professional learning experiences in the future and educating myself more with each conference,
workshop, and presentation.
