Curriculum Area: Science (Cells)
What I notice
o The lesson is online. The lesson is on cells on
an online module.
o The T describes the activity/module before
students start. The T showed the class where
to find their assignments on canvas.
o There were three videos that the students
were to watch. S were instructed to just watch
the first time. Then the second time to watch
and take notes.
o The three activities that the students had to do
were:
▪ Google slides with three of the vocabulary
words from the list. Providing an example,
use in a sentence, definition, and a picture.
▪ Recording of themselves explaining the
three vocabulary words they chose. While
also describing unicellular cells,
multicellular organism, and a cell.
▪ Word sort of vocabulary words.
o The teacher described uni- and multi- before
the students started their work.
o The students were expected to finish the
module in three days, including the intro day
(at least one activity is supposed to be turned
in every day).
o Students started working at 2:35pm.
o There was a quick 5 question quiz at the end of
module for them to take as well.

Thoughts, Questions, Connections to Methods
Classes
o I thought it was helpful to explain canvas to
students, to reduce questions during work
time.
o Videos are great to explain, and keep S
engaged.
o I wish there was more student collaboration.
o This was a good introduction to the topic, but I
wish it could be more hands on.
o I really liked that students could use their
notes on their quiz at the end. This really
encourages students to take good notes to
ensure a better score on the quiz.
o The teacher said after students complete the
module they would have a short lab on the
topic, giving concrete information and
experience for the topic of cells.
o I understand that the teacher did this because
of time constraints. They were told to keep
moving so they could hit all the topics they
needed to reach before the big exam at the
end of the year.
