Pasadena Elementary School

VISION STATEMENT

We envision Pasadena Elementary to be a school where we maintain high expectations for academic standards through
rigorous instruction. We will continue to foster a positive, caring school climate where we respect and value diversity and
prepare individuals for success in higher learning and careers.

Happy Spring Panther Families!

We are so eager to see the signs of spring emerging but cooler temperatures still prevail. Hopefully this month will yield slightly
warmer temperatures; green grass; sprouting flowers; and more consistent outdoor recess.

Our hard-working Pasadena Panthers have been very busy during the third marking period. Students have been working diligently
to become more proficient readers, writers, and critical thinkers, and our school’s staff couldn’t be prouder of them. It is wonderful
to observe students engaged in instructional activities each day, especially using technology in all content areas. Classes are
engaging in activities through Google Classroom and using new online resources. Portable Lego Walls have been constructed and
are in use in four classrooms daily.

All students in grades 3-5 will participate in PARCC English Language Arts and Math assessments during the testing window
(between mid-April and May). Our students will be taking the assessment online using desktops, laptops, and ChromeBooks.
Please do your best in getting to school on-time daily, and avoid scheduling medical appointments if possible. These assessments
will be administered: Grade 3: April 26, 27 and 30 and May 1-4; Grade 4 and 5: May 7-9 and May 10, 11, 14 & 15. A separate note
will be sent home with students regarding snacks on assessment days.

Parents wishing to complete the necessary paperwork for Out-of-Area transfer for the 2018-2019 school year can now obtain
information from www.aacps.org/outofarea. An Out-of-Area transfer is necessary for a student to attend a school within the
county other than his or her assigned school. The application must be completed and submitted each school year, even for children
who already attend a school under an approved Out-of-Area transfer. The continuation is not automatic. Additional information is
available on the website. Please note, Pasadena Elementary has been designated as a “closed” school for 2018-2019.

As you know, Pasadena Elementary is a site for the county’s regional autism program. Having this program at our school has
helped our students to be empathetic, help one another, and celebrate our individual differences through classroom inclusion and
extracurricular activities. We plan to “Light It Up Blue” and students will be invited to participate in activities to develop autism
awareness and support students in the program here. Please encourage your student to wear a blue shirt on Fridays. Thank you
for making donations last month to support Team Pasadena. Our themed baskets will be delivered to RISE this month.

During EEE Global Studies class, fourth grade students are planning for PES Alumni guest speakers to discuss how math and
reading were important in different career fields and jobs. Please email dpatrylak@aacps.org if you can assist. We can Skype for
those out of the area, too!

Heading into the fourth and final marking period of the school year, your student will continue to develop and sharpen skills on the
journey for college and career readiness. Please ensure your student continues to maintain focus and attends school on-time each
day. Our teachers cover a tremendous amount of instructional content each day, and it is so very important your student is in
school from 9:30am – 3:55pm. School doors open at 9:15am, and students are expected to be in the classroom seat ready to start
the day at 9:30am. Thank you for sending a note for students who will need an early dismissal. Preparing for and the dismissal
transition are extremely hectic times for the main office and the classroom teachers. Mark your calendar...There are two-hour
early dismissal days for April 11, 12 and 17. Report cards will be distributed on April 20.

Your help is needed! The PTA is looking for new officers and committee chairs for 2018-2019. The next PTA meeting is scheduled
for Thursday, April 12 from 5:00 – 6:00pm. There is also a ‘Mix & Mingle’ PTA meeting on May 10 from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.

Thank you for your continued support of the school,

Mrs. Quirino, Principal

Community Partner:

Pasadena Elementary School will be having our 8th annual 5K and 1 mile Fun Run. This event is
important to our school and community to promote healthy habits and lifestyles for every child, parent,
teacher, and community member. The 5K and 1 mile Fun Run will benefit the cultural arts programs at
Pasadena Elementary School.

We are looking for nearby business and community partners to sponsor our event which will take place
on Saturday, May 19, 2018. On the reverse side is a list of the three levels of sponsorship we have; Gold,
Silver and Bronze and what each level includes. Each year we have over 100 participants complete the
event. We also use official race timing chips and the participants have enjoyed this bonus.

As rewards for the winners of the 5K, we are hoping to offer prizes, certificates, and gift cards from
nearby businesses. Please consider donating an item(s) that is age appropriate (child or adult) or a gift
card. Monetary contributions are always welcomed to offset the costs of holding our event.

For the second year, we are adding a Health and Wellness component to our event. If your business would
like to set up an information table the morning of our event, please contact us for additional details.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Quirino
