In the last few days, each of you has requested a copy of any discrimination complaint I may

have put forward against a member of the board of school commissioners.

I’m writing to let you know that no such formal complaint has been filed by me at this time. The
investigation is a result of the former board taking a proactive approach to alleged
discrimination.

After hearing the statements at a board meeting from former Chair Mark Porter regarding
alleged comments by Jeff Wick which had racial and discriminatory undertones that were
directed at school administration, I expressed concerns to the board as a whole. I inquired as to
if and how they intended to respond to these statements and reminded them of their
responsibility to ensure that they administered their board role within fair practices and
principles.

The board responded by trying to be fair to all parties by opening an impartial investigation to
determine if there were any inappropriate actions that may have been detrimental to me or any
other employee.

The report regarding the former board’s investigation has been completed, and it is up to our
new board to decide what steps to take going forward. I am looking forward to seeing the new
board resolve this process in order for us to focus on the actions we need to take as a district to
support students and close the achievement gap.

I know this doesn’t give you everything that you’ve asked for but I wanted to clarify this for you.

Thank you,
Yaw
