Success Story of Mushrifa (V) of Kosgi (M)

Adavi Chelka converted into Orchid Chelka through Indira Jala Prabha
All fields of (52) SC familes pertaining to Mushrifa village of Kosgi mandal, Mahabubnagar
District have fallow lands. These fallow lands are converted into cultivable lands in 2008-09 through
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. These farmers are cultivating
Redgram and Caster crops and they are earning an income of nearly Rs.6,000/- per year.

Smt. Kankala Laxmamma aged about (45) years W/o Chandrappa is having 3 acres land which
was follow up to 2008 . In the year 2008-09 her land was treated under MGNREGS with land
development works. After that, this field was brought under cultivation. At present she is cultivating
Redgram and caster crops in her land.

Fortunately, in the year 2011-12 the Govt. of AP has introduced “Indira Jala Prabha” scheme
that is implemented through Commissionor Rural Development . Smt. Laxmamma with holding of 3.0
acres of land and other farmers namely Sri Appani Lalappa S/o Maisappa having 3 acres, Sri Pedda
Balappa having 3 acres, Sri Appani Kistappa S/o Buggappa having 3 acres formed as Bore Well User
Group (BUG) under Indira Jala Prabha scheme. The total area of the block is 12.0 acres.

Under Indira Jala Prabha for the above said BUG,one (1) bore well is sanctioned and accordingly
it is drilled , energized & motor is fixed. The bore has yielded 3” of water that is nearly 800 GPH. At her
field mango plantation is taken with drip irrigation.

An excerpt of interview with Smt. Laxmamma.”I am having 2 children namely elder one is
Kistappa who is an intermediate and the younger one Kanakappa is a matriculate. My land is covered
under “Indira Jala Prabha”. Through IJP, mango plants are given and drip irrigation is also installed ,
expenditure pertaining to pitting, planting is borne by the scheme, further I was told that maintenance
for 3 years of crop and drip will also borne by Indira Jala Prabha. Six months back, this mango orchid
had established now I planted chilly in the basins of mango orchards. By this I got an income of
Rs.2,000/- . In addition to this the Teak and Nilgiri plants are also planted on bund through Mahatma
Gandhi Vana Nursery (MGVN) scheme. Definitely, I am sure my children will get benefit in future. Now I
am planning to take up groundnut crop as inter crop, by which I can get good returns. After 3 years
through this mango and other inter crops, I am very confident that my income will definitely grow and
all my problems will be resolved”

The other farmers of above said BUG are planning to go for mango orchards in the coming
season and would like to adopt the same practices which are being practiced by Smt.Laxmamma.
