Methodology

Materials and Method

The researcher gathered all the materials needed. The variables were
collected in Lucban, Quezon due to its availability of the said locality. The materials
like the tuba vinegar, chalk dust, powdered eggshell, and baking soda were the
main materials used in conducting the study. In addition, the researcher prepared
for the improvised container, which is, the aerosol can. Measuring the apparatus,
pounding and mixing materials and containers were also prepared. For the
preparation, the researcher washed and pre heated the eggshell in oven for 300℉.
The collected chalk and eggshell were pounded using a mortar and pestle and
placed in separate containers. The powdered eggshell and chalkdust were the
filtered with a strainer to reassure the powderized materials. While filtering, the
researcher used a mask to avoid the toxic materials coming especially from the
chalk dust. Also, the researcher used a cloth bag to filter the powderized eggshell.
In this case, the pounded eggshell resulted into fine powder.

The researcher then poured 200mL 225mL of tube vinegar to the container
the 1 table spoon of chalk dust and eggshell 1⁄2 teaspoon of baking soda are added.
After that, the mixture is mixed and shaked thoroughly, then, it automatically
produced carbon dioxide in the sealed container. The 600mL container is soldered
with the tubeless tire valve using a soldering iron and used steel epoxy. This is to
pressure the aerosol can and be filtered with the mixture.

The resulting mixture was transferred to the improvised aerosol can. The
aerosol can is then pressurized at 10 psi with an air compressor.

Experimentation and General Procedure

In this experiment, the constant variable is the experimental fire

extinguisher. The dependent variable are the types of fires, size of fire, and the
materials used to create a fire the fire. Lastly, the independent variable are the
pressure on the container and the ratio of flammable materials used.
The researcher first tested the right amount of ratio of the mixture to
extinguish fire. Different ratio of the variables were tested and observed to
determine the right amount of materials. To have the comparison and testing, the
researcher prepared three (3) sets of mixture. Each with different ratio of variables
mixed together. Set A consist of 200mL of tap water and tuba vinegar and 1 table
spoon of chalk dust and powdered eggshell and 1⁄ teaspoon of baking soda. Set B
2

consist of 250mL of tap water and tuba vinegar and 11⁄2 table spoon of chalk dust and
powdered eggshell and 1⁄4 teaspoon of baking soda. And the last setup consist of
225mL of tap water and tuba vinegar and 11⁄2 tablespoon of chalk dust and
powdered eggshell and 1⁄2 teaspoon of baking soda.

After accumulating the mixture with the most abundant amount of ratio in
three (3) set ups, Set A, Set B, Set C, The mixture was transferred to improvised
to improvised 600mL aerosol can and tested which type of fire could the
experimental fire extinguisher kill and the time consumed to extinguish the fire.
Three test were done to each set up. Each set ups consist of specific combustible
variables in accordance to their types. Set-up A consist of Class A fire with old
newspaper as the combustible material; Set-up B consist of class B fire with
gasoline as the combustible variables.

The following figures are tabular presentation showing the results gained in
the study entitled “Applying Coconut Sap Vinegar (Sukang tuba), baking
soda,Chalk dust, and powdered Egg shell as Fire extinguisher”. Each table
shows results for every area and criterion needed.
