Today’s topic is about organizations that protect the environment and animals in danger

of extinction.
At the national and international level we find a good multitude of organizations that
protect the environment and animals in danger of extinction, most of them are unrelated
to the governments. These organizations take actions that are important to solve the
environmental problems that we are currently facing. I will speak of 3 major organizations
at the international level that are dedicated to protecting the environment and animals
that are in danger of extinction.

The best-known organization of all is, without a doubt, Greenpeace, founded in 1971 in
Vancouver, Canada. This ONG is based in more than forty countries and acts in favor of
the protection and defense of the environment.
Now one of the important actions that this organization is doing is collecting signatures
to request that the High Arctic be declared sanctuary. The purpose of this campaign is
to prohibit the oil prospecting and the industrial fishery in this area. The ONG wants to
protect the indiscriminate hunting of the animals that are in danger of extintion for
example polar bears, seals, polar foxes, arctic wolves, seals and other animals.

The Arctic, like Antarctica, is in serious danger from other threats such as thawing
caused by climate change for instance. This is why that the organization thinks that all
the campaigns and initiatives in favor of the conservation or recovery must reach the end
and must be supported by the society.

The World Wide Fund for Nature is the largest independent conservation organization in
the world. It has a fairly clear mission: to stop the degradation of our planet. This
organization has about five million members and works in more than one hundred
countries around the world.
WWF was born 50 years ago with the basic and simple goal of working for a living planet,
to find the best solutions to save our nature and stop the environmental degradation that
is making strides. In short, they are worried about the global biological biodiversity, the
use of renewable natural resources, pollution and wasteful consumption, and all this to
continue living in a world like the one we now have.

WWF conducts more than 1,200 projects on 6 continents, in addition they do numerous
campaigns involving public opinion and responsible institutions. The team of this
organization is composed of almost 4,000 people who decided to offer their support for
the wellness of all of us. The priority global areas are: forests, inland waters, tides and
coasts, endangered species and climate change, all of which are of extreme attention.
Even so, any of us can help in many ways. All we need is the desire to want to save our
planet and the animals.

Earth Action: Created in 1992, this environmental organization aims to solve ecological
degradation, poverty, abuse of human rights and other global problems that affect our
planet.

For many years the EarthAction Network worked with its 2,500 partner NGOs in more
than 160 countries to encourage nations to write, ratify, and fully implement the UN
Convention to Combat Desertification.

EarthAction organizes global campaigns on the world’s most pressing problems. For
most campaign we create and distribute, via email and post, Action Kits that include
timely, compelling ready-to-use materials. Each Kit provides brief information on one
important issue and recommends a simple action to take. Organizations and individuals
use the materials in the Kits to educate and mobilize their members, friends, media and
government. Our Legislative Kits inform policymakers about the best policies on issues
they care about, and our Media Kits provide accurate cutting-edge information to
journalists.
