WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION TO CHARGE

PACEMAKER BATTERY

ABSTRACT:

Wireless energy transfer or wireless power is the transmission of electrical energy

from a power source to an electrical load without a conductive physical
connection. Wireless transmission is useful in cases where interconnecting wires
are inconvenient, hazardous, or impossible. A pacemaker is used to treat a heart
that beats too slowly. The pacemaker is implanted under the skin of your chest
with wires attached into the heart. It monitors your heartbeat and provides
electrical stimulation when it beats too slowly or stops. Its power is supplied by a
battery that must periodically be replaced. The aim of research is designed to
charge a rechargeable battery wirelessly for the purpose. This is formed out of an
ac 230 volt 50 Hz to ac 20 KHz at 12 volt circuit .The output is fed to a tuned 20
KHz coil forming as primary of an air core transformer .The secondary coil
develops a voltage of 20 KHz at 12 volt while it is kept over the primary coil
where air is used as the core. The output of the secondary is given to a high
frequency bridge rectifier that delivers dc which is then regulated to maintain a
constant charging current to a NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) rechargeable battery.
Normally these batteries have a long life of 7 years. Thus the patient’s operation
time can be deferred to each 7 year after for replacement of the battery as the
charging can be done for 7 years externally.

EXISTING SYSTEM:

A literature review identified WPT for pacemaker that were successfully

demonstrated or deployed. We realize that Wireless Energy Transfer & Electricity
may play a significant role in the future in the field of Transmission of Electric
power. Traditional implantable batteries and percutaneous cords are suffering from
low reliability and high infection risk. The WPT is promising way to safely
provide more energy or enabled longer life time for pacemaker application. In
these reviews, many kinds of specialized antenna and circuit techniques have been
developed to improve the transfer and conversion efficiencies, reduce system size,
and promote system stability and so on. Wireless electricity delivered safely,
efficiently, and over distance has the potential to in a new generation of medical
devices.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:

The main objective of this project is to develop a system of wireless power transfer
for medical applications. Many people use pace makers (An electronic device that
works in place of a defective heart valve) implanted in their body that runs on a
battery. The patient is required to be operated every year to replace the battery
.This project is designed to charge a rechargeable battery wirelessly for the
purpose. This project is formed out of an ac 230 volt 50 Hz to ac 200 KHz at 12
volt circuit .The output is fed to a tuned 200 KHz coil forming as primary of an air
core transformer .The secondary coil develops a voltage of 200 KHz at 12 volt
while it is kept over the primary coil where air is used as the core. Theoutput of the
secondary is given to a high frequency bridge rectifier that delivers dc which is
then regulated to maintain a constant charging current to a NiCd (Nickel
Cadmium) rechargeable battery. Normally these batteries have a long life of 7
years. Thus the patient’s operation time can be deferred to each 7 year after for
replacement of the battery as the charging can be done for 7 years externally. But
in the project a DC fan motor is provided in place of a battery charging
arrangement for better visibility.
