4.2 Mount SFP Module

The Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver

designed to support for Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) or SDH (STM-1 optional) in the
iPASOLINK.

It offers three options of SFP modules as follows:

1. Single Mode Fiber (SMF): This SFP complies with GbE along with SDH and
Fiber Channel. The SFP operates with 1310 nm laser transmitter and has a
duplex LC connector.

2. Multi Mode Fiber (MMF): This SFP complies with 1.25 Gbps 1000 Base-SX
Gigabit Ethernet. The SFP operates with 850 nm laser transmitter and has a
duplex LC connector.

3. Electrical SFP (RJ45): This SFP compiles with 10/100/1000 BASE-T copper
interface.

NOTE: SyncE function is not supported on Electrical SFP.

The SFP modules also accept LC fiber connectors with Polished Connector (LC-PC)
or Ultra Polished Connector (LC-UPC).
The SFP modules purchasing from NEC are recommendable to use.

ATTENTION!
For the purpose of the use in iPASOLINK, it is recommended to use
SFPs that are designated and supplied by NEC. NEC will not
guarantee the performances of iPASOLINK if other vendors’ SFP
modules are installed.

5. MOUNTING ODU

This section provides procedures for mounting and dismounting the ODU. There are

The tools for installation are listed in Table 5-1.

CATION
1. Methods to use small and large O-rings are shown in the following
table. Two (small and large) O-rings are attached in 18 to 52 GHz band
Andrew/RFS direct mount antenna. 11/13/15 GHz band antenna does
not have a small O-ring (Small O-ring is not used for Andrew/RFS direct
mount antenna). If the small O-ring is used for ODU direct mount
installation, a gap may occur between ODU and antenna for RF
interface. Therefore it may happen transmit or receive level down.
2. Do not apply silicon grease at O-ring.

5.1.4 With Ortho-Mode Transducer

Following explains the installation of direct-mount to antenna type ODU with Ortho-
Mode Transducer (OMT).

There are two types of O-Rings for mounting antenna onto the OMT depending on
the frequency bands.

CAUTION: Do not apply the silicon grease to O-ring.

CAUTIONS:
1. For connecting the OMT to the antenna, the circular type waveguide
flange of the antenna is applied to the system. When the V/H flange is
mounted to the antenna, it must be changed to a circular type.
2. When mounting the ODU to the OMT, confirm the polarization for main
master and sub master ODU. The installation of the corresponding
ODUs in the opposite station must have the same polarization in order
to make into line main master and sub master MODEMs.

1. Secure the bracket and handle to the OMT.

CAUTIONS
1. Tighten all screws with lighter torque at first, then full torque as
specified.
2. If either ODU is demounting (for purposes of replacing, etc.), apply the
attached short plate onto the vacant port of the demounted OMT to
prevent the RF power leaking from the OMT, and to make it waterproof
and dustproof.
4. When installing the sub-master ODU, protect the main-master ODU
from the mechanical knocks in order to prevent the occurrence of bit
errors due to the microphonic properties.

cable length and the No.2 channel I/F cable length should be within
100 m. (differential absolute delay time: within 500 ns)
2. When the N (Male) straight connector is attached to the I/F cable,
use of the TNC (Male) - N (Female) (NJ-TNCP-LA) L-shaped adapter
is needed to connect to the IDU.
3. Use shielded cables which are connected to the D-Sub/RJ-45
connector to suppress interference from affecting the signal and to
reduce electromagnetic radiation which may interfere with other
signal cables.

START-UP and SHUT-DOWN 10-1

10. START-UP and SHUT-DOWN

10.1 Start-up
Proceed with the following to start up the equipment:

Warning
1. The –48 V DC is superimposed on the centre conductor of the I/F coaxial
cable between IDU and ODU. Connecting the test device directly to this
terminal may damage the Units, and touching the coaxial cable core may
give an electrical shock.
2. Do not disconnect the I/F cable between IDU and ODU while in service. To
prevent the equipment from being damaged, turn the IDU power off before
connecting/disconnecting the I/F cable.
3. Do not allow the open/short circuit of ODU TX output while the TX is
powered on. Operate the TX ODU PWR control in the Maintenance mode or
turn the IDU PWR switch off before disconnecting the cable or feeder from
the ODU TX output.
4. Once the equipment is powered on, wait at least 5 minutes before turning
its power off. Rapidly turning the power on and off within a short interval
may cause the equipment to fail.

Caution
1. Be careful of the top surface above MODEM of IDU and ODU that are hot
during the operation.
2. Do not apply a voltage to the equipment that varies sharply. The equipment
may operate improperly.

Procedure

1. Verify that the IDU and ODU #1 are powered on.

2. Check that the MD/ODU PWR switch of IDU #2 is at off (downward) position.

3. Check that the IF cable between IDU and ODU #2 is securely connected.

4. Turn the MD/ODU PWR switch (for ODUs #2 – #4) of IDU on (upward).

5. Put the ODUs #2 – #4 into service using WebLCT.

10.2 Shut-down
Proceed with the following to shut down the equipment:

Warning: 
Once the equipment is powered on, wait at least 5 minutes
before turning its power off. Repeatedly turning the power
on and off within a short interval may cause the IDU/ODU
to fail.

Procedure

1. Turn off the MD/ODU PWR switches (Slot 1 and 2) of IDU.

2. Disconnect the power cable from IDU.

Safety Guideline for Microwave Radiation Hazard

The radiation levels of Microwave and Millimeter-wave that iPASOLINK series deal
with are very low, and no health hazard has been reported for them so far. However,
advanced countries that care much about health hazard have started regulating the
radiation levels. For EU countries, it is specified by EN50385. In order to follow the
regulation, operators should not work near by parabolic antenna if its transmitter is
activating. Especially, the radiation level of a specific area in front of antenna shows
higher radiation level. See the following illustration and Calculation Example 1.

Power density level in front of the antenna turns high along the antenna beam. Ensure
not to allow yourself radiated by beams anytime. Refer to Calculation Example 2
