In Basic Calculus we have learned a lot not just learned but we also understood

most of our lessons. In Basic Calculus we realized that not all basic is easy as it sounds to
be because it is one of the hardest subject that we STEM students are taking. But first
what is Calculus and who developed it? Calculus from Latin word “calculus”, literally
‘small pebble’, used for counting and calculations, as on an abacus. It is the
mathematical study of continuous change. Modern Calculus was developed in 17th
century in Europe by Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibneiz.

Calculus has two major branches, differential calculus (concerning rates of

change and slopes of curves), and integral calculus (concerning accumulation of
quantities and the areas under and between curves). Calculus is a part of modern
mathematics education. Today calculus has widespread uses in science, engineering,
and economics. We tackled the Derivative of a function, and the limit and continuity of
a function. Derivative is the function of the slope of the graph. But before we discuss the
derivative of a function we discuss first the limits and continuity of a function. Thus, limit is
a number that a function approaches as the independent variable of the function
approaches a given value. A function can either be continuous or discontinuous. As a
human being living in this world, we can compare our life to a limit of a function.
Continuous, your dreams may come true as you wish and everything you planned goes
the way you wanted to be but there will always be discontinuous you will experience to
stumble but as you fall, make sure to get back and be stronger than before and to
never give up.

Our beautiful teacher taught us with everything that we must learn because it will
be very useful for us when we decide to pursue especially engineering. The most
important thing about learning is to have fun. We cannot truly learn if you don’t have
the willingness to learn that just makes it useless. Our teacher makes sure that we follow
what she is teaching us, she always makes sure that we are not bored, she always
laugh even though theres nothing to laugh about. Our teacher encourages and she
helps us build our confidence. Basic calculus is the reason why we as a class get closer
to each other, we share and teach what we have learned with our classmates.

Basic calculus may be hard but we will do our best to pass in this subject no matter
what. There is no shortcut to success you have to take every step, every challenges,
and persevere on what you are doing. Basic calculus is not just about numbers but it
taught us to have fun. I’m very thankful to our most beautiful teacher for being patient
and dedicated on what she is doing. We hope that in the next semester, she would stay
with us.
