1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 MY TOPIC

As I was expected to choose a topic of my own interest, I considered different

issues of today’s world like Globalization, Extremism & Terrorism and Dot

com culture in Pakistan. The topic which I have selected is Globalization,

which will be discussed in this assignment and in upcoming assignments.

There are three main reasons for selecting Globalization as my topic

 Because of my own interest.

 Because of its enormous effects on our living.

 Because Globalization is one of the key issue of today.

1.2 GLOBALIZATION

People around the globe are more connected to each other than ever before.

Information and money flow more quickly than ever. Goods and services

produced in one part of the world are increasingly available in all parts of the

world. International travel is more frequent. International communication is a

commonplace. This phenomenon has been titled "globalization." Globalization

refers to international exchange or sharing of labour force, production, ideas,

knowledge, products and services across borders. It is a result of human

innovation and technological progress.

However the other view concerning Globalization is that it is a clear and

specific economic strategy that is formulated and dictated on the world by

rich industrial states to serve the interests of large corporations that are

called 'Trans-national' or 'Multi-national' corporations (TNC's or MNC's). The

objective of this strategy is to open up the markets of the countries of the

world and to put the natural resources and wealth of those countries under

the disposal of these corporations, without any restrictions, barriers, or

conditions.

1.3 MY OBJECTIVES

My objectives are to,

 Explore the term ‘Globalization’.

 Find the effects of Globalization on nation’s sovereignty, culture and

inequality.

 Find whether the Globalization is threat or opportunity.

1.4 IMPORTANCE OF GLOBALIZATION

Whether we accept it or not, globalization is a reality occurring before our

eyes. There is no question that the economics of globalization have been

incredibly beneficial to many people around the world. The Internet and

advances in telecommunications have improved the livelihoods and access to

information of millions. The communications revolution has allowed residents

to enjoy increased speed and efficiency of business, interactions with

colleagues and markets outside of their political borders, educational

opportunities and more.
