Hometown: I was born in Mableton, Georgia and have lived in several places. I call Monroe, NC home because I have
lived here the longest.
City you would like to visit: I would love to go out towards the west again to Jackson Hole, Sedona, the Grand
Canyon and Utah. I would also like to travel to see more tropical places like Hawaii, Bora Bora or anywhere that has
blue water.
College: Bachelor’s degree in special education from Georgia Southern University and additional teaching
certifications from UNC-Charlotte
Why did you become a teacher? I have always had a passion for helping others. I wanted to teach but didn't feel
led to teach in the general classroom. Educating children that require additional support has always been my
greatest desire.
Name of your favorite elementary school teacher: Mrs. Askew at Matthews Elementary – she inspired me to teach
Favorite thing to do when not at school: Spend time with my daughter, Mycala, my parents, and my dog, Humphrey
Most rewarding part of being a teacher: Getting to come to school everyday and work with my students, sometimes
over a several year span watching them grow and knowing that I have played just a little part of that growth.
Silliest fact about you: My daughter says that it's the way I respond to people in a funny way . Her example is if
someone says, “Oh, I found $20" and my response would be, "hot dog!” Students have even said that I make up
words to describe things that makes them laugh. I also like to imitate people's actions.
