 INTRODUCTION
A Sporting Singapore! Our Way of Life
Sports have become an increasingly important facet of our individual lives and an
indispensable component of our culture.

A strong sports culture needs to be cultivated so that sports can become an integral part
of life. In this aspect, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) has been actively
encouraging sports participation among Singaporeans.

Initiated by SSC, this Swimming Information Guide (Swim Guide) is part of SSC's
continuous effort to better facilitate the practice of sports and the promotion of a
Sporting Singapore.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and

Sports, the Ministry of Education and relevant partners; the Swim Guide consolidates
information pertaining to swimming courses, programmes and facilities available under
SSC; and will be made available to the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Educational
Institutions in Singapore.

Essentially, this Swim Guide features useful information on how, when & where to
participate in; and organize swimming programmes. Hence, the Swim Guide provides
a one-point reference for any individual who are keen to take up swimming as a sport.

Target Participants Recommended for children aged 6 and above

Course Duration 9 hours plus 1 hour test session (maximum 20 students)

Recommended Fees $20 per student per course

(exclude testing, transportation and pool entry fees)

Coach Qualification Only coaches registered with NROC* and hold a

valid Usage Permit issued by SSC are allowed to
coach LTS at SSC Pools. (*National Registry of Coaches)

* As this is an elementary course, all coaches are required to conduct all sessions with special caution and to pay
attention to all students, especially the weaker swimmers.

* All participants are prepared for LTS Elementary Level II syllabus. However, if they are unable to fulfil the Level II test
requirement, but meet Level I requirement, they will be awarded with Level I certification.

The above syllabus is intended to prepare students for the LTS Intermediate Level I and II examination. Depending on
the competency level of the students, the syllabus may be altered by changing the timing/distance/depth requirement to
meet the Intermediate Level I and II test criteria.

All swimming coaches teaching at SSC pools are registered with the National Registry of
Coaches (NROC), which requires them to meet the following conditions:

Certified by the National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP), including

1 Theory and Technical Certification (The NCAP Technical Course for Swimming is
conducted by Singapore Swimming Association)

2 First Aid & Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) trained

3 Pledge to abide by the Coach’s Code of Ethics

Committed to continual learning through the Continuing Coach Education

4 (CCE) programme

To facilitate group entries, Stored Value Cards may be purchased at the sales counter
of SSC Swimming Complexes.

Sales Counter
Swimming course coordinators may approach the Customer Service Officer (CSO) at
the sales counter of SSC swimming complexes and pay the entry fees to the SSC Pool
collectively for their students. Payment must be made in cash.

Special Remarks
For schools inviting quotes for swimming courses via GeBIZ, the students' entry fees to swimming pools
may be requested to be included in the swimming course package.
