2) To move to a shallower pay zone a=er the deeper zone starts producing water.
If the bridge plug is to be set permanently to kill a well, cement plug of approximately 200
meter is recommended. Either of bridge plug or cement plug will not serve the purpose,as:-
-rubber sealing element degrade with :me and in contact with well fluids.
-if there is cement plug alone and gas is present in the forma:on, a channeling can be in the
cement that will result into flowing of gas through the channel.
JUNK BASKET
Junk baskets are available as mean of cleaning out debris suspended in the well fluid. These
baskets are designed with a gauge ring assembly at the top and a wiper at boEom for fast,
efficient gauging and junk collec:ng on a single run.
The wiper rings are tailored to the size and weight of the pipe being swept to assure a clean
sweep.
During running in, well fluid flows into the boEom of the basket, it opens a flapper valve
allowing junk to enter the basket where it is retained. As the junk basket is pulled out of the
well to the surface, the flapper valve closes and the junk is re:eved.
2) Wireline bridge plug adapter kit (at HLSA, we use BAKER 20 KIT ).
3) Bridge plug including wireline upper slip and release stud (provided by the client).
Table(shown below) shows specifica:on for seQng bridge plug model-N. From this table
according to the casing size we select the bridge plug size, release stud, appropriate adapter kit
and size and seQng tool size.
ASSEMBLY OF PST:-
Step1
To begin assembly of the Shorty setting tool, secure the top cylinder in a vise.
Step 2
Install new inner and outer o-rings on the bottom cylinder.
Step 3
Next, take the bottom cylinder and screw it on to the top cylinder and tighten with a pipe wrench.
Step 4
Before installing the piston rod/top piston assembly into the top cylinder, clear the gas holes in the
piston rod of any debris. Also clear any debris from the hole in the top of the piston rod. Clearing the holes
in the piston rod ensures gas can move freely through the piston rod.
Step 5
Install new o-rings on the top piston and insert the piston rod into the top cylinder.
Remove the assembly from the vise and place it on a block of wood with the piston rod down.
Grasp the assembly in both hands and bang it sharply on a block of wood. Repeat this until the
piston rod/top piston is driven into the top cylinder
CAUTION: Do NOT bang the piston rod/top cylinder assembly on any surface that may damage
the end of the piston rod.
Step 6
Secure the tool assembly back in the vise. Then install new o-rings onto the bottom piston and
screw it hand tight onto the end of the piston rod.
Use a pipe wrench to tighten the bottom piston. Watch the other end of the tool and tighten the
bottom piston until the piston rod turns.
Step 7
Install a new nylon plug into the vent hole in the side of the top cylinder.
Step 8
Take the tool assembly out of the vise and stand it on end. Fill the tool with clean oil to the bottom of the
threads of the top cylinder.
Step 9
Next, install the top sub onto the top cylinder and screw in until hand tight.
Step 10
Take the shear sub and screw it hand tight onto the top sub.

Step 11
Place the tool assembly back in the vise for final assembly.
Step 12
Use a pipe wrench and turn the shear sub. This draws the bottom piston into the bottom cylinder.
Continue turning the shear sub until the bottom piston o-ring is pulled into place and the bottom
cylinder begins to turn.
Step 13
Turn the shear sub until the hole in the shear sub aligns with hole in the top sub. Then install the
shear pin. This locks the shear sub onto the top sub.
Step 14
Install the power chamber cylinder onto the shear sub and tighten.

Step 15
Install new o-rings onto the quick change assembly. Then install the quick change assembly onto
the power chamber cylinder and tighten.
Step 16
Finally install a thread protector on the quick change assembly.

Step 17
Wrap the joint between the top sub and shear sub with tape to prevent oil from weeping out of the
tool while in storage or transit to location. The tape is removed from the tool prior to use.

DISASSEMBLY OF THE SHORTY SETTING TOOL
Step 1
Secure the Shorty Setting tool in a vise or on tool stands. Before starting any disassembly, verify
the tool is in the stroked position and the nylon plug is missing. The figure below shows the tool
in the-stroked position.
Step 2
Use a pipe wrench to loosen the power chamber/shear sub assembly. Carefully unscrew the
power chamber/shear sub assembly, this will release any pressure remaining inside the tool.
Under normal operating conditions, the Shorty setting tool will vent gas into the well bore before
coming out of the hole.
Step 3
Place a pipe wrench on the shear sub and one on the power chamber. Loosen and remove the
power chamber and set aside.
Step 4
Next, remove the shear sub from the piston rod and set aside.

Loosen and remove the top sub from the top cylinder.
Step 6
Use a pipe wrench to remove the bottom piston from the end of the piston rod and set aside.
Step 7
Use the pipe wrench to loosen and then remove the bottom cylinder from the top cylinder and set
aside.
Step 8
Remove the piston rod/top cylinder assembly from the vise and stand the piston rod on a block of
wood with the top of the piston rod down. Grasp the top cylinder in both hands and lift the piston
rod/top cylinder assembly and bang it sharply on the block of wood. Repeat this until the piston
rod/top piston are driven out of the top cylinder
SETTING MECHANISM
An electrically actuated high temperature rated E-74(55 ohms) located at the upper end
of the tool is ignited and produces a flash flame which in turn ignites the power
charge(3-1/2” shorty charge) that is located directly below the igniter.
The resultant gas derived from the burning charge gradually builds up to high pressure
and is used to power the tool.
The pressurized gas is vented down the centre of the top piston and out into the annular
cavity between the top piston rem and the bottom cylinder.
The build up of pressure at this location drives the outside of the tool (consisting of
bottom and top cylinders and top sub) downward while the top and bottom pistons in
effect remain stationary. This action results into no. of events.
BAKER 20 KIT :- 3-1/2” Setting tool is of G-series and Bridge plug is of Baker, so Baker
20 kit is required between the PST and the bridge plug.

9) Tension mandrel is different for 7/8” shear stud than 1” shear stud. So carefully check
both tension mandrel and shear stud for the required casing size.
10) There are 18 threads on a stud. Tighten atleast 14 threads while connecting stud to
tension mandrel.
11) Tighten 2 thread of stud to Bridge Plug by hand to see if stud can be connected to BP.
Now tighten minimum 14 threads of stud into bgride plug.
12) Check lock spring and connect bridge plug to PST.
