Learning Objective Number and Number Sense

The objective of the lesson is what students
will be able to do as they finish the activity.
Focus: Place Value, Number Patterns, and Fraction
For this objective, use the Standards of Concepts
Learning (SOL) to say what you want to
focus on. 2.4 The student will a) count forward by twos, fives, and tens to
You can find the SOLs at 100, starting at various multiples of 2, 5, or 10; b) count

Activity Describe what the learning The objective of this lesson is to introduce multiples of twos, fives,
activity will be. What will the students and
the teacher be doing? (This includes what
and tens, learn how to count to 100 by using those multiples
they are doing with the technology). introduce the difference between even and odd numbers. The
teacher will provide an explanation of ways to count by twos, fives,
and tens, explain how to realize multiples of each, and provide
examples and teach the difference between even and odd numbers.
The teacher will then show the students the practice activity in Smart
Exchange they will be doing and how it works. Students will take a
koosh ball that can be thrown at the smart board and safe to throw at
the smart board. It will hit one of the moles that will open up a
question for the student(s) to answer. After that question is
answered, the student will drag a hammer from one of the corners of
the smart board and cover up the color mole they had already hit.
Students will then be able to practice as a class using this Smart
Notebook activity to practice counting by these multiples and
recognizing the difference between even and odd numbers. Students
will be asked as volunteers or chosen by the teacher to come up to
the board. The question will have numbers counting by either of the
three multiples with choices of which multiple it is counting by, the
question can have numbers and a blank space that the student has to
fill in with what multiple fits in, or it will have a group of numbers
where the students have to identify whether they are even or odd.
The volunteer will work through each problem and so will the rest of
the class on a piece of scrap paper to number each question and turn

in to the teacher at the end of the activity. After the activity is

finished, the students can compare their answers to learn from each
other and learn from their mistakes.
