ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of DARE program to the
Health Profile of the Overweight Employees of Adventist Medical Center and
College of Iligan City. It seeks to find out the body weight, body mass index, and
body fat percentage of the respondents before and after the DARE program. To
determine the significant difference between the health profile of the respondents
before and after the DARE program and to formulate health and wellness program
based on the findings of the study.
This study is a one group pre-post experimental design. There were twenty-
five (25) overweight employees who qualified and voluntarily joined the study. The
researcher used the Omron (HBF-514C) body composition monitor with the scale
to measure the health profile of the respondents, their body weight, body mass
index, and body fat percentage before and after the 2-weeks DARE program. The
Omron scale measures body fat percentage using bioelectrical impedance.
The obtained results show that the mean weight before DARE is 166.48
(lbs.) and after DARE is 161.51 (lbs.) while the mean BMI before is 29.39 (kg/m2)
and after DARE is 28.36 (kg/m2) and the mean body fat % before DARE is 34.35
(%) and after DARE is 31.84 (%). There is a significant difference in the median
of weight (lbs) between before and after DARE program at .05 level of significance
with a p-value<0.05. There was a significant difference in the mean of BMI
between before and after DARE program at .05 level of significance with a t-value
(24) of 9.481 with a p value of .000. There is a significant difference in the median
of body fat % before and after DARE program at .05 level of significance with a p-
value of .001.The Health and Wellness Program was designed by the researcher
with the help of Nutritionist and Dietician to improve the quality of life of the
respondents.
Thus, dietary approach with regular exercise significantly lowers the body
weight, body mass index, and body fat percentage in two weeks. Therefore, DARE
program is effective in reducing health profile of the overweight employees.
