Accuracy
We define measurement tolerances in
terms of rdg. (reading) and dgt. (digit) val-
ues, with the following meanings:
9
Using a measurement instrument in an
environment designated with a higher-num- 10
bered category than that for which the
instrument is rated could result in a severe
accident, and must be carefully avoided.
Never use a CAT I measuring instrument in 11
CAT II, III, or IV environments.
The measurement categories comply with
the Overvoltage Categories of the 付録
IEC60664 Standards.

Follow these precautions to ensure safe
operation and to obtain the full benefits of
the various functions.
Preliminary Checks
Before using the instrument the first time,
verify that it operates normally to ensure
that the no damage occurred during stor-
age or shipping. If you find any damage,
contact your dealer or Hioki representative.

3.1 Pre-Operation Inspection
2
To ensure safe use of the tester, be
sure to check it before use.
3
Before using the instrument, make sure
that the insulation on the test leads and
cables is undamaged and that no bare 4
conductors are improperly exposed.
Using the product in such conditions
could cause an electric shock, so contact
your dealer or Hioki representative for 5
replacements.
6
Make sure the terminals are clean and dry.
Wipe with a dry cloth to remove any
moisture, since measurement errors may 7
result if moisture is present.

3.2.6 Insulation Resistance Measurement
Basis 5
When a high DC voltage is applied to an
object under test, a leakage current flows.
The insulation resistance tester measures 6
the applied voltage V and the combined
leakage current I and then calculates the
insulation resistance R. 7

Power supply 8
When testing the insulation of a cable, as
shown in the diagram above, wind a bare
conductor around the surface of the insulat- 9
ing material and connect the conductor to
the GUARD terminal. This prevents the
leakage current on the surface of the insu-
lating material flowing into the current
10
detector, which enables the actual resis-
tance of the entire volume of the insulating
material to be measured. 11

Overview of test 6
• The test voltage is increased in 5 steps at
regular intervals during insulation resis-

surement and the current measurement
are acquired once at the end of every
step.
• The test voltage is applied in one of the
8
two orders below.
STEP2.50 kV: 500 V →1 kV →1.5 kV →
2 kV →2.5 kV
STEP5.00 kV: 1 kV →2 kV →3 kV → 9

• If the instrument seems to be malfunc-
tioning, confirm that the batteries or bat-
tery pack are not discharged, and that the 2
test leads are not open circuited before
contacting your dealer or Hioki represen-
tative.
• When sending the instrument for repair, 3
remove the batteries and pack carefully to
prevent damage in transit. Include cush-
ioning material so the instrument cannot
move within the package. Be sure to
4
include details of the problem. Hioki can-
not be responsible for damage that
occurs during shipment. 5
• The instrument contains a built-in backup
lithium battery, which offers a service life
of about ten years. If the date and time
deviate substantially when the instrument 6
is switched on, it is the time to replace
that battery. Contact your dealer or Hioki
representative. 7
• The life of the battery pack is 500
charging cycles or approximately one
year of use. If the operating time is
extremely short after the battery pack has
8
been charged correctly, replace it with a
new battery pack.
9
• Do not replace the lithium battery. This
will void the guarantee.

8.2 Cleaning
8.2 Cleaning
To clean the instrument, wipe it gently with
a soft cloth moistened with water or mild
detergent. Never use solvents such as ben-
zene, alcohol, acetone, ether, ketones, thin-
ners or gasoline, as they can deform and
discolor the case.
Wipe the instrument with a dry cloth for fin-
ishing.
