JUMP at Virginia Tech


CROWDFUNDING
 Platform that allows donors to support projects nationwide varying from research,
events, outreach and scholarships
 Organization that wish to complete a project sponsor a campaign to raise money
and awareness of their efforts.
 Fundraising in a crowdfunding manner has been used for centuries and originally
started with authors and publishers to manufacture books.
 The first notable internet crowdfunds in 1997 for the music industry.

WHAT IS JUMP
 Jump began in the Fall of 2017 as Virginia Tech’s crowdfunding platform
 Projects are specifically sponsored by students, staff, faculty or an entity affiliated
with a university department or student organizations.
 Crowdfunding allows donors to support projects at the university through donors
with meaningful missions whether it be research, events, outreach or scholarships
CRITERIA TO START A CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN
 Support UT proism in the communities on and off campus, bring together all
university agents to make a good impact
 Projects must have clear and specific goals that are narrowly focused, built in
audience, non-profitable and realistic
 Specific deadline that creates a sense of urgency to encourage donations during
the 30-day active period

 Black Male Excellence: complete mission trips
 Architecture and Design Program: train observatory
 University Libraries: Create freely available textbooks and resources
 The Cardio Team: help for Cavalier King Charles spaniels
 School of Performing Arts: scholarships for trumpet players
 VT Autism Research Center: display research and have speakers
 Granata Biochemics Lab: work to improve lives of those who have osteoarthritis
 Service Without Boarders: travels to Tanzania
 SEAC: scholarship for oversees studies
 CIRED: supply seeds to Haitians
 SAFE: outreach for individuals that live with autis
 Hahn Horticulture Garden: new sign for the garden
