IGCSE MUSIC

My listening diary

Name…………………………………

Nick McGauley 1

How successful you are in your IGCSE Listening Exam (40% of
your total IGCSE result!), all depends on your ability to be able to
LISTEN to, IDENTIFY, and DESCRIBE, the music you have studied
over your two year course.

This includes music from ALL the time periods including

Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century, AND the
World Music from the selected countries we have studied in
class.

You will be played extracts of music from any of the above

musical periods, and will not only be expected to identify the
period, instruments, and possible composer of the pieces, but
you’ll also have to recognize and describe the features of the
music that is typical to the particular time period – NOT easy!

In order to practice and improve your listening skills, choose any

piece of World Music, or Western Classical Music, (use YouTube
or any other source) and describe the music using the headings
in the table.

If there is any part of this booklet that you don’t understand

then ask!
