ABSTRACT
The use of clay liners as a landfill cover system is alternative materials that are widely used in
almost all the existing landfill system in Indodonesia and in the world. Instead of the relatively low cost
of procurement is also available in almost all regions in Indonesia. However, alternative reliable
overburden landfills has not been much discussed and researched. The purpose of this study is to
design an ideal cover layer on landfil. This study includes: (1) investigate the nature of geotechnical
and soil behavior stabilize by fly ash and fiber as cover landfill, (2) measure the performance of a layer
of stabilization based on the composition of the optimum mix as cover landfill, (3) recommend the final
of cover layer alternative to the system landfill
Has a lot of experimental research on strengthening the soil by using natural fibers and
synthetic fibers. A previous study by Azadegan O., dkk (2012) showed that the addition of fiber in the
ground does not improve the potential for development on the ground, the greater the percentage of
fiber added to the soil the greater soil volume changes occur. In the test potential shrinkage, with the
addition of fiber to contribute to the reduction of fractures (cracks) on the inside, either horizontally or
vertically. Compressive strength, elastic modulus and strain the limit increases when the percentage of
fiber added to the soil.
A general review of previous studies revealed that almost all of the studies only evaluate the
efect of synthetic fibers on the behavior of clay, and a lot of research before leaving the question of how
to overcome the dilemma of increased strength of the soil on clay at once followed by a decrease in
hydraulic conductivity at the soil stabilized with natural fibers.
In this study, have been investigate the performance of clays liners stabilized by fly ash and
strengthening by natural fiber (palm oil fiber). the performance of clay liners stabilize by fly ash and
the palm oil fiber increase consistenly as landfill cover. The swelling and shrinkage potential of soils
decrease significantly, and crack intensity factor (CIF) of soils shows the reduction by increasing of
volumetric of fiber.
