Abstract

1.0 Introduction
In my class I found that many students are struggling while writing essay I collected 25 script of
English essay which was written by my students and I did analysis and found out that that they
are actually suffering from limited vocabulary problem. So they couldn’t expand the sentences
properly and they also have couldn’t spell the word properly as they are lack of vocb drilling as
well. According to jeffry and berlin they usage of youtube inteaching voballury could improve
the students competence in vocabulary.
2.0 Literature Review

2.1 Past Studies on YouTube Videos as a learning tool

2.11 A research was conducted by Berlian & Mohamad Jafre Zainol Abidin (2011), about the

use ideo and potential of YouTube in ESL classroom. According to the research, video are

useful in teaching English because it could motivate and increase learner comprehension. In

addition, it could enhance various language skills and has the ability to provide authentic

language environment.Furthermore, the potential of YouTube has been investigated.

According to the research, the usage of YouTube video In ESL classroom is could provide

better understanding during ESL lesson as YouTube has huge video database, user-friendly

features consisted of, social networking characteristic the research was conducted by testing

few variable. moreover, the research did mention about strategies in using youtube as a

resource to facilitate ESL.

2.12 According to the research done by Watkins & Wilkins (2011), YouTube can be a

powerful tool to teach foreign language. YouTube actually can accelerate the conversation,

listening, pronunciation both inside and outside the classroom and YouTube videos can also

be used to stimulate cultural lessons, provide an exposure to World Englishes, and promote

authentic vocabulary development. Even reading and writing activities can be structured

around YouTube videos.

2.13Jones & Cuthrell (2011), to enhance 21St-century learning, YouTube has the promising
instructional potential of video technology in the. Studies show positive gains in student
outcomes as a result of the integration of video technology in instruction. In this article
researcher study the potential YouTube as an instructional aid in lessons and in planning
explores potential uses of Emphasis is placed on using YouTube directly in social studies
instruction and as a teaching resource in elementary classrooms. Attention is also given
to the evaluation of YouTube videos. This article discusses the potential challenges of
using YouTube in the classroom and offers suggestions for overcoming those challenges.

2.2 Past studies on YouTube video Usage in improving vocabullary competence

2.21 Furthermore, there was also a research conducted by Abidin, Pour-Mohammadi, Singh,

Azman, & Souriyavongsa (2011), about the effectiveness of using songs in YouTube to

improve vocabulary competence among upper secondary school studies. The study was

conducted for six-week which is equivalent to 12 sessions using 68 Form Four students as a

sample and the students were chosen from a government secondary school located in Kedah,

Malaysia. During the research the students the participants were divided into of experimental

group and control group. The aim of the research was to investigated whether learners

exposed to songs using YouTube would improve vocabulary competence compared to those

exposed to the traditional teaching method. The research design was quasi-experimental

where pretest and postest was given as a for both group before and after the treatment.

vocabulary lessons conducted with both groups in which the experimental group by using

songs from YouTube and the control group students were taught by using traditional method

which was chalk and talk. Data was gathered through a vocabulary pretest and posttest, on-

going observations, and journal entries for twelve weeks. Results had shown that vocabulary

competence among the experimental group had improved compared to the control group.
