org Comes to Marshall for Historical Fiction Workshop

Western North Carolina and Madison County have a new publishing company located
in downtown Marshall. SpectrumPublishing.Org is a not-for-profit firm specializi
ng in helping authors publish their work. From historical fiction to poetry, cof
fee table to children's books, Spectrum offers a full range of services to compl
iment the author's needs and budget. This October, Spectrum will hold an eight s
ession creative writers' workshop in Marshall and is open to authors of all leve
ls.
Marshall, NC, September 20, 2010 -- There's a new company in downtown these days
and its name is SpectrumPublishing.Org. Besides documenting and publishing Appa
lachian history for the last 30 years, their aim is to help new authors by provi
ding them with the training, consultation and ultimately, the publication of the
ir work.
This Fall the team will conduct an extensive workshop, for aspiring authors of c
reative nonfiction, concentrating on the accurate depiction of history in the ar
ea of the French Broad River Valley. 'Historical Fiction' is the process by whic
h actual history (culture, actual persons, places, language, incidents, etc.) is
chronologically organized and then fictional tales are spun around those sets o
f facts. Cold Mountain by Charles Fraser is just one such example of historical
fiction.
The workshop is open to a maximum of 6 participants so as to provide concise att
ention to each person's abilities and desires. The course begins on October 29th
, 2010 and concludes on January 4th, 2011. Each participant will create a short
story (20 pages) about a subject relevant to life in the French Broad River Vall
ey during the Frontier period of Westerly migration of Germans and Scots-Irish.
These tales will then be combined, after editing by Spectrum at no charge, into
an e-book available for the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble's Nook, and Apple's
iPad, from which the authors will share in the profits.
