It was lunchtime, so I asked the children to help tidy up outside so can all go inside for lunch.

Some children including Rayan had taken their shoes off so I asked them to put their shoes back
on. Rayan straight away took her shoes and began to put them on while others needed a few
reminders.

While I was helping another child, I saw that Rayan had already put her shoes on but on the wrong
foot. Once she stood up she realized that her shoes don’t quite fit but looked confused as if trying
to know why they are not fitting. Before I could tell her she has the wrong shoe on the wrong foot
she sat down and took her shoes off again.

Rayan then put her shoes on but somehow again she got the wrong shoes on. I said to her that she
has the wrong shoe on. She smiled and took the shoes off and put it on the correct foot. She then
looked up at me and smiled. Once she had the other shoe on, she quickly run after her friend Sara
and Siham inside.

It is lovely to see Rayan being independent and problem solving herself. Masha allah Rayan is
competent to help herself and has the capability to learn and master things. Te Whariki Strand
Wellbeing suggests that young children should be given opportunities to build on their
independence and self help skills. Therefore, insha allah we will continue to provide Rayan with
opportunities to enhance her problem solving and independent skills. Rayan’s learning goals are
to develop language as well as confidence to communicate and shre her ideas. I will do this by
engaging her in intentional learning activities and group activities.
