Baking a cake Written by: T.

Madiha 4/2018
Not long ago I noticed Sara playing in the sandpit so I went to interact with her. In the sandpit she
was busy filling the small bucket with sand. I asked her what is she doing? Sara said “I make cake”
followed by something else that I couldn’t understand. So I asked her what did you put in your
cake? Sara replied “its chocolate”.
We kept interacting for another few minutes about
ingredients inside a cake with input from other children.

Later on this month I

noticed Sara playing in the sandpit again so I decided to join her to revisit the
language we used, as Sara’s learning goal is develop oral language. I asked Sara
what she was doing? She replied “I make cake, I put here” pointing at the
microwave. We interacted for a long while.

Masha allah I love seeing Sara

try to communicate her ideas
and thoughts even though it
is difficult for her. Insha allah,
she will pick up the language
soon. Sara next learning step
is to further enhance her
language and communication
skills and we will do this
through intentional learning activities.
