MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER
Chronological Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 13-15
Monday, May 7
Gen. 28:15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither
thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done
that which I have spoken to thee of.
God My Watchman:
How I need traveling mercies today! Give me two things as I go out: your
presence and your preservation. Be with me and keep me everywhere, because
every place I go I need these two blessings. That means you better show me how
to walk with you, because I can only have power to witness if I am
empowered by you, and not following my own feelings and fancies.
I know several people who are called to go to other countries as
missionaries. They do not see at it as a mournful need but as a joyful activity,
because they are responding to your will.
It does not matter where I am; I will be both a pilgrim and a stranger any
place I go. Yet that does not matter Lord. I have seen the mountain top, and you
are my dwelling place, as you have been to all your children through generations.
I may miss the protection of the Bill of Rights, of local police, or of an
independent judiciary, but if you say, I will keep you, then I am in no real danger
for following you. That is the best passport I could have, and I need it now. Give
me your heavenly escort as I leave my place of prayer, and immigrate into the
work-a-day world to try and reach __________ or __________ with the gospel.
Jacob did it. He was a momma’s boy who went abroad, but you went with
him. What a secure bodyguard he had! Even while sleeping in the open field
angels were watching over him. I want to follow you Lord, and I want to be in
prayer for all those who have followed you to foreign lands. Make us fruitful
together in Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.

TUESDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE
Chronological Bible Reading: Psalms 3-4; 13; 28; 55
Tuesday, May 8
† John 7:38-39 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly
shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him
should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Lord of Glory, God of Grace:
Some people seem to sneer, “I know I need the Holy Spirit, so there is no
need to preach on it all the time.” But if I do not acknowledge his presence I will
not have his power. If I do not honor the Holy Ghost, he will not work for me.
If I grieve him, I cannot expect him to pray for me. I do not want him to leave
me because then I will not sense my helplessness, so I acknowledge it right now!
Many Christians believe in the need for the Spirit’s work as a matter of
doctrine, yet they do not act on it! Lord, what I do not believe in practice I
really do not believe. I may give intellectual assent to it, but I do not trust my
soul to it by faith unless I act on it today. I seek your Spirit NOW!
Jesus, without your Spirit I can do nothing. I need him for revival. Make me
both feel and confess the fact I am useless without his movements. I do not want
to get away from that idea or conceal it. I look for my power from on high!
The promise of living water is made only to the thirsty. The blessing only
comes when I realize what a waste of a desert I am. I confess my unworthiness,
and lament my barrenness, Lord. Do not leave me, because I am willing to make
my pride bite the dust at the curb, as I now lie low before you in nothingness.
Let the Spirit of God come on our church, because that is all we need to be
living and fruitful. I feel my own ministry is slow in utterance (like Moses). The
impression I make on others is as ugly as Paul’s. Yet none of that matters if only
the Spirit of God will be on me! I claim this blessing from the King today, as I
ask for it in Jesus’ name. Amen!
FRIDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY
Chronological Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 19-21; Psalms 5; 38; 42
Friday, May 11
Gen. 13:14-15 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift
up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward,
and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
Lord of the Covenant:
Help us say with Abram, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and
thee…for we be brethren. (Gen. 13:8)
We want the blessing that belongs to peacemakers, where truth is not
compromised. Manifest your grace to us as we seek and pursue peace—at work,
in our homes, and in this church. We want closer communion with you Lord, so
we are willing to avoid the ways of strife, and stick closer to the paths of peace.
Abram behaved very generously toward his brethren. He gave up his choice
of the land to Lot. Help us loosen our grasp and be willing to deny self—not
defending ourselves on “principle”—for the sake of peace. We know you will
more than make it up to us Lord, because we are imitating your Son!
1 Cor. 3:21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
When we please you, you make us see all things as our own.
1 Cor. 3:22-23 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or
death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is
God’s.
As far as Abraham could see, he could claim everything within his vision as
his own territory. We can do the same for our community by faith! It is a
covenant-gift in salvation. But while it belongs to all of us, we yet belong to
Christ, and we know Christ will lead us into the will of God. For his kingdom to
come, your will must be done. Let it start with me and my house, and our church
WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING
Chronological Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 16-18
Wednesday, May 9
Isa. 44:5 One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall call himself by the
name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname
himself by the name of Israel.
Lord of Revival:
O that our new believers and young Christians would be led to testify about
their faith! Some of them get saved, but then they are either too prideful, or so
fearful, they never join our church. They hold within themselves the supremely
American trait of “rugged individualism,” which means, (for all practical
purposes) “get out of my way because I’m better than you.”
On the other hand, some of them join our church, yet do not have enough
respect for the Holy Spirit to give themselves up to be discipled. They are here
bodily on Sunday, but their heart is far from us. Lord, let revival put the two
together! Give all of us a fresh surrender to God, then a union with the people of
God.
One shall say, I am the LORD’S. Help me confess that more boldly! I am not
my own, but Christ’s. Tell me what I can do. Tell me how I can serve, for I am
yours, and intend to be yours forever. Give me hundreds more who will say this!
And another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord. I want to give myself
over to you, and do it both publicly and deliberately—as intentionally and
purposely as I sign a deed to own a home. Tattoo my hide with your name!
Stamp me with the secret marks of your love. Put your brand across my life. Give
me consecration of the most complete kind, side-by-side with a unity with our
church; parallel with involvement in our discipleship, and coordinated with
outreach activities and events (like this Mother’s Day!). This is the revival I seek. I
cast my lot in with your people so your promise may be fulfilled in me. Amen.
SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS
Chronological Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 22-23; Psalm 57
Saturday, May 12
Psa. 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Mighty Helper, Lord:
Others boast of their good jobs, large homes, and retirement plans. But
you, O Lord, are a far better rest and refuge from distress. I am safe when I
make myself strong in you.
You are as surely my refuge today as when David wrote. All other
strongholds are weak, because all power belongs to you. Since you are all-
sufficient you are equal to my every emergency.
You are tried and proven by my trials. You never forget me when I am
afflicted. You are my help—really, effectively and constantly. You are close to my
side and ready to rescue, more present than any human friend or relative can be;
tighter to me than even trouble itself!
To all this is the added comfort that your help comes right at the time of
need. So how irrational is it for me to fear? You are all-power and love; why
should I be afraid? You remain faithful even when I am not.
Psa. 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I
will be exalted in the earth.
Let me be still then, and rest my soul in you. You destroy the Destroyer as
long as I respect your cause and your crown! Give me rest in the midst of the
storms this weekend. I will relax and wait in patience on you, for you are God.
I adore you Lord, for I share the protection of your grace. The boasts of
the ungodly and the worldly are hushed when I remember what you have done
for me in the past. Make my life reflect your majesty, because even my personal
history of sin, stubbornness, and pride will shine glory onto your grace once you
reign. Work all things to your own increasing worship and glory. Amen.

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
“Oh,” says one, “I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer.” And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into God’s presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayer—the posture, the
time, place—rather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
