MICRO CAPSULES

We are pleased to introduce you a new technology for manufacturing special types of
air fresheners.

This style has been known under different names such as:

- beads
- pellets
- EVA‘s
- pearls
- granules

The system is based on ethylene-vinyl acetate-copolymer resin called EVA. The pearls
release the delicate fragrance gradually.

1. Proposed finished products

The perfumed pearls are being used mainly for the following products:

• Freshness sachets for drawers and wardrobes (most widespread application)

• Loose pearls added to potpourri bouquets
• Scented pearls sachet for air freshening purposes in home, car, office etc.

2. General information

The base raw material, the so called beads, are an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)
copolymer resin. We do recommend to using Elvax ® by Du Pont.

2.1. Raw material list - Beads:

Elvax® type 150. There have been many types available which differ mainly by the
percentage of EVA they contain. Our fragrances have been fully tested on Elvax® 150
but work as well with all other types. However, a thorough testing is absolutely
necessary.

The cost of Elvax® 150 might differ depending on:

- Ordered quantity
- mode of transportation

Currently, Elvax® 150 is available at the following approx. rates in 25 kg bags:

200 - 1250 kg USD 3.70 - 2.30 per kg

1250 - 5000 kg USD 2.30 - 2.10 per kg
5000 - 10000 kg USD 2.10 - 1.80 per kg

These rates might well differ in your country!

Elvax® 150 can be stored for at least two years, in cool dry places even longer. All
information subject to change by Du Pont.

Other Elvax ® types can absorb up to approx. 50 % fragrance. Even stronger types can
therefore be manufactured.

2.2. Raw material list - Colorants:

If requested, the pearls can be coloured. Cosmetic grade colorants which are soluble in
mineral oil have to be used.

2.3. Raw material list - Perfumes:

In view of the nature of the carrier, the use of specially developed LUZI fragrances is
necessary. All LUZI fragrance compounds reference numbers for the use in micro
capsules have the ending -MC. Currently, the following types are available:

The above mentioned fragrance compounds can very well be used for other
applications, but other perfumes than -MC compounds do NOT work in micro capsules.

3. Manufacturing procedure (example)

3.1. Add approx. 1 g colorant to 199 g Benzyl Benzoate and make a clear solution.

3.2. Mix this solution (200 g) with 10 kg LUZI fragrance compound and stir well.

3.3. Put 90 kg beads in a container, add the solution (colorant + perfume) and keep
stirring until all the perfume is fully absorbed by the EVA beads.
Our samples have been manufactured with a dosage of 10% meaning for
obtaining 100 kg of perfumed pearls, 10 kg of fragrance are needed. Basically, any
dosage can be used.

3.4. Once dried, we recommend to pack them immediately into an airtight packaging,
preferably directly into the container in which the beads will be sold.

Further remarks

In view of the many different colorants available, it is necessary to make separate tests
for each colour first. The dosage of the benzoate-colorant solution differs a lot
depending on which end colour is desired and what kind of colorants are being used.
(From 0,2% upwards).

Climat, humidity and packing have an influence on the finished product. Adjust the
formulation and manufacture to the local conditions and the raw materials available.

Detailed tests are strongly recommended.
