Based on the study of World Health Organization the ideal layout of a hospital should have

an accessible corridor to minimize the traffic flow of the users and for easy transfer of
patients in one room to another. In this study they proposed different room planning
requirements for, healthcare facilities must have a reception and office, transfer area,
holding bay, staff changing rooms, operating theatres, scrub-up room (facilities that can
be shared by two operating theatres), sub-clean-up, sub-sterilizing, trolley parking and
recovery room.
Operating theaters are one of the most important rooms in a hospital, it is essential
to have glass panels for the families to observe what’s happening inside. And all surfaces
must be smooth and washable and having a special anti-static floor to prevent any static
electricity. And also considering air-conditioners for every unit room or a window type with
1 ton capacity per 18m2 need to be considered.
Intensive care unit (ICU) is a special department for seriously ill patients and mainly
contains highly specialized equipment. That’s why it is advisable to locate this room
adjacent to the recovery room or operating department for easily transfers the patients.
And pediatric units is a room for critically ill infants, it is necessary for the nursery should
be located to the delivery department to ensure the safety of transferring of the new-borns.
Ward forms; it is a separate room in the facility where the patient stays. The study
shows the commonly used forms of wards first is the nightingale ward, straight or single
corridor ward, L-shaped ward, T-shaped ward, race track ward and the cruciform plan.
