Alpine - Active Lively Playground
Inclusive of Needs of Everyone

Kudos to the Alpine Community Neighbourhood Association - a group of people working together to
make the Alpine community a great place to live. Along with a student council representative, I just
attended their monthly meeting and came away inspired! Alpine PS shares the same goal of
wanting ours to be an awesome, inclusive and engaging community.

We have an ambitious idea at the school which we think the entire community will benefit from and
be excited about and are grateful to the Alpine Community Neighbourhood Association for allowing
us to share this message with you.

Alpine Public School currently has a lovely playground. There is an adjacent baseball field (on city
property) used by the community. On school property, community neighbors enjoy two soccer fields,
basketball hoops, a tarmac for practicing cycling skills, a creative playground for ages 5-12,
benches, a table, rocks and a sand pit. We have beautiful trees to provide shade. We are grateful
for all that we have!

However, our great idea is to make our playground more inclusive for school, family and
community use and to complement and revitalize the existing features by reinstalling a creative
playground for children aged 2-5 years old. Right now they are left out! We want our playground to
be a community hub for neighbours to meet, connect and build stronger community ties. We want
our school playground to be well used and much loved both by students during school hours and by
the broader school community after hours.

This is a big dream for a small school but we are determined to be excellent community citizens!

The good news - Alpine School Council has currently raised almost $20000 towards our very
ambitious goal of $45000. We are applying for the City of Kitchener Neighbourhood Matching Grant.
